hit and run asshole
came out to my car this afternoon to find my car had been hit. It's bad enough to have the damage but the bastard took off without a word. So now I'm on the hook for the whole cost of the repairs.

my car in happier times

The damage is just to the rear of the tire on the drivers side

1. I'm sorry.
People like that suck in the worst way.

Don't you have comprehensive insurance on that beautiful car?

2. I have full coverage
but the damage will still cost me at least $500 to fix because of the deductible.

3. I hear you.
I had to shell out $250 for a smashed windshield a few weeks ago. It couldn't have come at any shittier of a time.

4. Track him or her her down and when you find the perpetrator, you're
free to exact whatever revenge you think is suitable. I won't judge you.

Anyone who does that and runs away is beneath contempt.

11. it's possible
A friend of mine's car was hit like this, in his driveway. It was a red car and he called the cops and they combed the neighborhood looking for a vehicle with red paint on it and found the guy who did it, who'd been driving home drunk, so it's possible the person lives in the neighborhood. My friend's car was totaled, but luckily, the engine had been shot and the car wasn't running anyway and he got enough money from the settlement to make a down payment on another car.

6. My wife
Edited on Mon Oct-30-06 09:56 PM by Gargoyle
convinced me that it happened at work. I park my car in front of the house with her car directly in front of mine with my son's car behind mine. I was so sure that it happened at home because it's a heavily traveled road but it couldn't have happened without the other cars being hit too. The lot at work is used by my coworkers and the cops next door. That would be a hoot, what if it was a cop.

14. I'm assuming you mean a police station is next door to where
you work. If that is the case, they usually have cameras on all sides of the buildings (at least up here they do) maybe there was one facing your parking lot. Does your work place have parking lot cameras? If not, maybe you could get them to install one especially after this particular incident.

9. Hey Gargoyle. Check your policy -- you may not have to pay
the whole $500 deductible. In my auto insurance policy, I have a $100 deductible if I'm victim of a hit and run, or if I'm hit by an uninsured driver. My normal deductible is $500.

10. How do you know the bastard took off without a word?
Assuming the offending party was a bastard . . . .

The person that hit your car may have said, "Ha ha ha ha ha ha," or, "Fuck you, bastard!"

12. Some douchebag hit my wife's car and took off -- totalled it.
It was an older Saturn but ran like a champ and we both loved that car. We drove it and drove it and it never let us down. I was using it as my commuter car to get to work.

That was a sad day.

I would have put money that the guilty party was a friend of my neighbor's kids -- high schoolers who spend a lot of time drinking and smoking pot when their parents are gone (which is often.). There was no way to prove it, though.

Sorry that you are now going through this, Gargoyle.

15. Any chance the parking lot had video surveillance cameras?
Maybe they caught the perp on camera. Hit and run is a felony, and I hate to see assholes get away with anything. :grr:

I'm really sorry about your car.

16. File a police report
That's what I did when the same thing happened to me in a parking lot and I didn't have to pay the deductible when I got the car fixed.
