Warning: Ego Stroking in Progress
I did not reach my goal of 1000 posts last weekend so I'm trying again today.

Help me out DU lounge: tell me something you like about me :)

I know, its a little self centered and egotistical, but I am a red-head Sagittarius male who needs to have his ego stroked every once in a while. I can't help it, its who I am.

1000 posts here I come!

:silly:

5. I think I'm alright
I've been playing for almost 7 years now (self taught) - I know about 5 or 6 chords that I can move between well and it has led to a library of 20 or so songs.

I've never really performed for anybody other than my wife and kids. Unless you count my entire neighborhood when I have the house to myself. I live on a hillside that overlooks most of the residential area I live in (not quite urban, not quite sub-urban). When the wife and kids are gone I open my bedroom window, turn up the volume and play my tooshie off! The way sound travels down through the valley I know anyone who is home can hear every note and has no clue where it is coming from.

7. That's the only way!
I love to drive with the stereo cranked so I can sing along. Self-contained with scenery. :)

Congratulations on teaching yourself to play. This sounds strange, I'm sure, but guitar is too abstract for me. I've played music since I was in 2nd grade and learned to read music. For me, the note always corresponded to a fingering or a key on the piano.

:)

9. I am kinda the opposite
I excell at string instruments and played violin between the ages of 6 and 11. I was considered quite gifted (3rd chair of 5 in the Los Angeles All City Youth Orchestra @ 10 - the orchestra was for ages 10-16). But I have a HUGE problem with the piano.

It's like I can coordinate my hands as long as they are doing two completely different kinds of actions. The similarity of motion left-to-right on the piano has made it problematic for me all my life (I tried lessons at 8 but hated it).

I wish I had picked up the guitar when I dropped the violin (which I did because my parents could no longer afford private lessons when we moved to WA and the schools up here had bands, not orchestras) - if I had, who knows where I would be right now.

On the other hand, I spent a couple years working video for some local bands and figured out pretty quick that the musician's lifestyle is not one I desire in the slightest. I love to play, write music, work in the studio, and have fun with it, but I think I have outgrown the whole rock star thing.

6. 4 posts to go!
This one makes 3.

I think hitting the 1000 mark makes one feel like they are truly a member of this community. Maybe its just me.

I've been a posting member for almost a year now and I love it here (even when I hate it here). I've met cool people, rancid people, and people who surprised the heck out of me.

8. How long have you been in the NW?
My parents moved to Portland 15 years ago. They refuse to move back to the midwest - ever.

11. Since I was 10
We moved up here from Long Beach, CA in the summer of '85. I will never live anywhere else in the world. The PNW is beautiful, the people are great, the weather is beautifully mild (plus I love rain), and I love being surrounded by mountains. I do like to travel, and have done so pretty extensively, and there is no-where in this nation like Washington.

OK, maybe I would live in Colorado, but only if I had a lucrative job and the ability to come back and visit my family whenever the desire struck me.
