Hawaii Warriors beat Houston in Triple Overtime, Post-Game Brawl on Nat.TV
Hawaii Warriors beat Houston in Triple Overtime,

In what will be remembered as a Christmas football classic, Hawai'i produced a triple-overtime 54-48 victory over Houston yesterday in the Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl.

An announced crowd of 25,551 at Aloha Stadium saw running back Michael Brewster weave 8 yards for the decisive points, safety Leonard Peters make the game-winning defensive play, quarterback Tim Chang return to glory with five scoring passes, and freshman receiver Jason Rivers break out with seven catches for 143 yards and three touchdowns.

But the nationally televised game also will be remembered for an ugly brawl between the teams in which tempers flared, and punches and helmets flew.

While police and coaches tried to restore calm on the field, several spectators pelted Houston players with trash as they approached the tunnel leading to the locker room. Police said there were no immediate arrests, although several complaints were filed.

Post-Game Brawl

One of the most exciting finishes in University of Hawai'i football history was marred by a brawl that took place at the conclusion of the Warriors' 54-48 triple-overtime Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl win over Houston last night at Aloha Stadium.

A helmet-swinging melee erupted on the ESPN national cable broadcast after the final gun that took coaches and police several minutes to finally quiet.

It was the second time in two seasons a UH game ended in skirmishes.

Both involved opponents from Conference USA. Last year Cincinnati and UH brawled for several minutes after the conclusion of UH's victory.

Last night, several small fights broke out re-igniting the situation when coaches and police intervened to try and settle matters.

1. Oh, but what a game...!!
..both teams played their hearts out and gave it all they had... I was VERY impressed with both sides... the "good" Timmy Chang showed up for the game, and Houston QB Kolb was very, very impressive until pressure and fatigue starting taking it's toll...

..it's great that UH (both of them) got national television coverage, too bad about the aftergame brawl... not quite pono..:)

peace;
rob

3. The former "Hawaii Rainbow Warriors"...
...who shortened their name to simply "Warriors" several years ago because the rainbow had become associated with homosexuality, and they had to make sure they were recognized as real men.

:eyes:

(The main reason why I found myself rooting for a team from Texas for the first time in my adult life...)
