I made a horrible mistake with the new kitten...
The other day Dot was in the office with me and jumping on my keyboard, as he often does.

I picked him up and put him on the floor and he was right back up on the keys.

So I picked him up and put him up on my shoulder (ala parrot style). Well he just loved that. Now whenever I'm sitting down he thinks that my shoulder is a nifty place to perch.

Sigh. The things our kids learn nowadays.

1. Oh, great!
I can hardly wait til this little kitten is a twelve pounder and still thinks your shoulder is a nifty place to perch.

Get photos!

2. How cute!
My Ol' Tomcat Zues used to do that when he was a kitten. I could walk around the house with him on my shoulder like a Parrot. Then after he got a year old and put on 25lbs. I couldn't do that with him anymore. He was never neutered BTW
:wow:That was a huge cat.

8. Funny how that works!
My youngest is turning 18 in 3 days and still to this day when holding something I sway from side to side with it like I did my babies! Yep, he will be walking with a definite lean from now on.

10. I cat-sat for one that would climb up your leg and back ...
... just to reach the coveted shoulder position.

Luckily, that was just when she was a kitten (though her claws were wickedly sharp). She's a little more indolent now as an adult, and just meows to be picked up and put there.

11. Marty Feldman With A Hump
And an expressive tail growing out of his hump?

That's one gag they missed in "Young Frankenstein."

12. That was a relief
I was afraid you were going to say you inadvertently left the kitty in a room with a snake. I hate it when that happens.

13. I got a new kitten and left it alone with another cat for a week
Before: purry lap kitty

After: psycho cat from hell

The other cat taught it all its bad habits.

18. Thanks for that tip!
The owner of a pet store here left a cat in his store overnight to scare the mice away. He had 2 parrots who lived in the store.

After just one night, the parrots gave up most of their words and meowed like a pitiful cat who wanted to be let out - all day long.

Quick learners - these animals.

14. Will, you scared me to death.
I was afraid to read this thread; I was afraid it was something serious!

I bet everyone who's ever had a kitten has made a similar mistake. Mine with our latest kitten, Cocoa, was to play with her with my toes one day. Oy. You should see my toes now.

20. I made that mistake with mine when he was a kitten.
My first cat. Thought it was really cute when the little fella clamped around my hand. Then he grew into a big kitty and boy did I regret it. Got the scars to show for it.

It's hard wired now.

17. Most of them grow out of that... I have a rat that likes to do that
but my cat who did it when she was a kitten, does not anymore.

19. A friend of my parents also made a mistake with a cat
at about 6 months old, the then kitten started scratching on the furniture, so they would pick the cat up and put it outside

now whenever the cat wants to go outside - it scratches on the furniture and runs for the door

21. That's okay, Will.
All you have to do is start pointing it out, trying to get the cat to do it when you have company and talking about how cute it is -- in other words, decide it's something you devoutly wish the cat to do -- and the cat will never do it again.

22. Many cats are shoulder-riders...
...and it's pretty nice, unless they are enormous longhairs on a hot summer day...
