Mets/Cards tonite.. Any heads-ups for me, a non baseball fan that could
enhance my game watching experience? Backstories, feuds, strategies, hot hitters, etc.?

3. sorry...i haven't been watching the NLCS since the Series is a foregone
conclusion. The Tigers are gonna sweep either one.

I have a longstanding and deep seated hatred for the Mets (due to the 1986 NLCS) and the Cardinals (for being in the NL Central).

5. Yes, Albert Pujols is proof that Human Growth Hormone and
steroids are not good for your personality.

Albert Pujols is unimpressed with the entire Mets line up. They have been lucky that all of their balls happen to fall in such a lucky way that they win 97 games. The Mets are not good. Not good at all.

:eyes: It was a stupid thing to have said, but to equate that with taking banned substances is over the line.

Oh, and he said he was unimpressed with Glavine, not the whole team.

7. The Mets are, for reasons that escape me,
considered to be the class of the National League. Their record would seem to back that up, but it is important to note that the league as a whole is weak. The Cardinals, a regular-season disappointment at 83-79, are in the playoffs only because they play in the sport's worst division.

The American League has a long list of teams that I think would shred either the Mets or Cardinals in a seven-game series: Yankees, Red Sox, Blue Jays, White Sox, Twins, Tigers, A's, Angels and even the Rangers. I think even the Indians might get away with it.

Backstories include Albert Pujols (STL) disrespecting Tom Glavine (NYM, although Glavine will not be pitching tonight), Scott Rolen (STL) not being on speaking terms with manager Tony LaRussa, and the Cardinals enjoying an on-paper edge in pitching matchups for the second straight game since STL had the Mets on the ropes. Also worth noting: Mets closer Billy Wagner, once considered an automatic save, is not having a good series at all and isn't inspiring so much as one iota of fear among the Cardinals.

My guess is that St. Louis will win and trot into the World Series with their 83-79 record, while Montreal remains without a team

8. As a Cardinals fan I am pretty much in agreement.
How they ended up where they are says more about the NL as a whole. I thought they'd be a wild card team at best before the season started.

But hey, I'll take it.

11. To be quite honest
Since my Twins are gone, I am hoping for a Cardinals - Tigers match-up. And either team would, IMHO, be deserving of the trophy.

12. You didn't see the Cards winning their division?
I did. Houston was too old, the Reds didn't have the depth, I didn't join the pre-season Brewers bandwagon, there was little reason to take the Cubs seriously and even less reason to consider the Pirates. Who did you think would win? Houston, right?

15. I thought Houston, but that was because I figured their pitching
would carry them after they got Clemens back. I didn't count on them having no offense whatsoever behind their big arms. They gave crap run-support to their top of the rotation guys.

14. As much as I love the city of Montreal...
I used to be able to walk up 5 minutes before a game and buy scalped tickets behind the plate for my pocket money (Less than $50 for 2). I had days where feeling generous, I decided to buy a beer for every adult in the same section as me who wanted one and got away at less than $150.(That was in the upper bowl, not behind the plate.) That's how few people went to games towards the end.

If they'd supported the team, they'd still have the team. They don't deserve a team...but neither does KC or Milwaukee.

16. When the team was good or even average, they
did fill the stands pretty well until the last few years. However, having the thought of the team moving hanging over their heads year after year kept a lot of people from investing themselves emotionally. I understand the business aspect of it, but I'm going to stick by the notion that MLB let down Montreal, not the other way around. That's my story and I'm sticking with it. If you can refute that, please don't. :)

I've been unable to root for any team since they moved. I'm close enough to go see Nats games live and haven't gone to one.

caring.

Actually, that probably isn't worth noting for you at all, but I had to say it.

26. Barring a hurricane or something
they'd finish this one tonight. The Series starts Saturday, and as it is the NL champ's gonna get only one day off.

Detroit's had the whole freakin' week off.
