Fresh- baked hot Apple Crisp.....who wants some???
:9 Mmmmmm.....perfect for a brisk autumn evening....

Apple Crisp
6-8 servings

8-10 med cooking apples
Juice of 1 lemon
2 cups raw oats
1/4 C walnuts
1/4 C sunflower seeds (I used slivered almonds tonite, since I didn't have any seeds)
1/4 C orange juice
3/4 C flour
1/2 C butter
1/3 C honey
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. allspice
1/2 tsp. salt

Peel (if necessary), pare and slice the apples. Drizzle them with fresh lemon juice. Spread half of them into a large oblong pan.
Melt the butter and honey together. Combine with oats, flour, nuts, seeds, salt and spices. Spread 1/2 this mixture (actually crumble, it won't really spread) onto apples in pan.
Cover with the remaining apples and the rest of the topping.
Pour o.j. over the top.
Bake 40-45 min, uncovered at 375 degrees. Cover if it crisps too quickly.

Notes: Throw in some cranberries for a jeweled effect. That's what I did. :D YUMMMY!! I like this recipe because it doesn't have any sugar.

Enjoy!!! :hi:

1. Looks delicious.
What with the cranberries and all. Can I sub in sugar or turbinado syrup for the honey without ruining the recipe? I may make this tomorrow afternoon.

2. I don't see why not.
It's not like it's a lot of honey to begin with. Maybe you could use brown sugar...

Enjoy! I'm happy to pass along the recipe. :)

5. oh, yum! My husband and I just ate an entire fresh pear cobbler...
Our cat (on his leash) wandered into the neighbor's yard yesterday (now empty - they've moved) and led us directly to a pear tree. Couldn't let the fruit rot, now, could we? So we picked a bunch of fresh pears and many of them made their way into a cobbler tonight. Nice, crisp pears, too - didn't lose too much of their crunch in the baking process.

Seems right to make apple crisps and pear cobblers in the autumn! Enjoy!

12. I was sorely tempted to ladle on a big ole scoop of vanilla ice cream
but I stayed strong and didn't indulge. I'm trying to stay away from too much sugar.

But yes, warm apple crisp is THE best. :9

Cool that you made some, too. :hi:
