Favorite "I Just Got Dumped" songs?
Not to dwell on the topic. :-)

"I Hate Myself for Loving You" comes to mind. I need something for my MySpace page....

2. this old one--
Deal,Bill And The Rhondels Lyrics - I've Been Hurt Lyrics

I've been hurt, hurt, hurt
Yes I've been hurt
I've been hurt like I've never been hurt before
Cause you lied, you lied to me
So leave me alone
Cause I've been hurt
Baby you lied
Darling, what happened, what happened
What happened, what happened last night
I saw you with another guy
Was holding you tight
I've been hurt
Baby you cheated, mistreated
You cheated, cheated on me
And you told me, you told me
You told a whole lot of lies
Darling, what happened, what happened
What happened, what happened last night
Well, I saw you with another guy
He was holding you tight

9. Yup
Born 'n' raised.

But I never learned most of the old dances. The Twist, o' course, and the Frug... or was it the Jerk? And the Swim. But that was about it.

Dancing a certain way always seemed kinda silly to me, anyway. The music should tell you what to do, not some pop-culture choreographer.

When was the last time you heard it? For me, must be 30 years.

They had another hit, too, but I can't think of the name or any of the lyrics. Same kinda doo-woppiness, though.

"Song for the Dumped" by Ben Folds Five
Written by Ben Folds and Darren Jessee

So you wanted to take a break
Slow it down some and have some space
Well fuck you too!

Give me my money back
Give me my money back, you bitch
I want my money back

Wish I hadn't bought you dinner
Right before you dumped me on your front porch

Give me my money back
Give me my money back, you bitch
I want my money back
... and don't forget my black T-shirt

I have one relationship in particular that applies to. It's too damn bad I didn't run a tab on that girl just so I would know how many thousands she cost me. I mean, we are talking from April to December of 1996, not a terribly huge length of time, either.

7. Sigh... I get to tell this story again
It was 1976 and I'd just found out my first real love had married another guy. (We'd broken up a few months earlier.) I was driving home and on the radio comes "The Worst That Could Happen" by Brooklyn Bridge:

Girl, I heard you're getting married
Heard you're getting married, this time you're really sure
And this is the end, they say you really mean it
This guy's the one that makes you feel so safe, so sane and so secure
And, baby, if he loves you more than me
Maybe it's the best thing
Maybe it's the best thing for you
But it's the worst that could happen to me

I'll never get married
Never get married, you know that's not my scene
But a girl like you needs to be married
I've known all along you couldn't live forever in between
And, baby, if he loves you more than me
Maybe it's the best thing
Maybe it's the best thing for you
But it's the worst that could happen to me

And, girl, I don't really blame you for having a dream of your own
Hey, girl, I don't really blame you
A woman like you needs a house and a home, baby
If he really loves you more than me
Maybe it's the best thing
Maybe it's the best thing for you
But it's the worst that could happen

Oh, girl, don't wanna get married
Girl, I'm never, never gonna marry, no no
No, it's the worst that could happen
The worst that could happen
Oh, girl, the worst that could happen

The radio always knows. :(

8. and there is this one--
Artist: Rick Price Lyrics
Song: Walk Away Renee Lyrics
And when I see the sign
It points one way
The life we used to lead
Everyday

Just walk away Renee
You won't see me follow you back home
The empty sidewalks on my block
They're not the same
You're not to blame

From deep inside the tears
I'm forced to cry
From deep inside the pain
I chose to hide

Just walk away Renee
You won't see me follow you back home
Now as the rain beats down
Upon my weary eyes
For me I cry

Your name and mine inside
A heart on a wall
Still finds a way to haunt me
Though they're so small

Just walk away Renee
You won't see me follow you back home
Now as the rain beats down
Upon my weary eyes
For me I cry

(Just walk away Renee)
Walk Away
(Just walk away Renee)
I won't follow you, no
(Just walk away Renee)
I won't follow you no, just walk away
(Just walk away Renee)
Just walk away
(Just walk away)

36. Soul knows no geography
And I love this one, too:

Now when you're feelin' low and the fish won't bite
You need a little bit o' soul to put you right
You gotta make like you wanna kneel and pray
And then a little bit of soul will come your way

Now when your girl is gone and you're broke in two
You need a little bit o' soul to see you through
And when you raise the roof with your rock'n'roll
You'll get a lot more kicks with a little bit o' soul

And when your party falls 'cause ain't nobody groovin'
A little bit o' soul and it really starts movin', yeah

And when you're in a mess and you feel like cryin'
Just remember this little song of mine
And as you go through life tryin' to reach your goal
Just remember what I said about a little bit o'soul

A little bit o' soul, yeah a little bit o' soul
A little bit o' soul, yeah a little bit o' soul
A little bit o' soul, yeah a little bit o' soul
A little bit o' soul, yeah a little bit o' soul
A little bit o' soul, yeah a little bit o' soul
A little bit o' soul, yeah a little bit o' soul

44. okay then but, going forward in time a bit
Takin' my time
Choosin' my lines
Try'n' to decide what to do
Looks like my stop
Don't wanna get off
Got myself hung up on you

Seems to me
You don't wanna talk about it
Seems to me
You just turn your pretty head and walk away

Places I've known
Things that I'm growin'
Don't taste the same without you
I got my self in
The worst mess I've been
And I find myself starvin' without you

Seems to me
Talk all night here comes the mornin'
Seems to me
You just forget what we said and greet the day

I've got to cool myself down
Stompin' around
Thinkin' some words I can't name ya
Meet you half way
Got nothing to say
Still I don't s'ppose I can blame ya

Seems to me
You don't wanna talk about it
Seems to me
You just turn your pretty head and walk away

52. one more--cos I like ya so much...

You ask me to read this letter
That you wrote the night before
And you really should know better
Now she's worth a whole lot more
chorus:
Brother, you know you can't run away and hide
Is it you don't want to see her cries, is that why
You won't go and say goodbye
Then you said the fault was yours
When you really were to blame
'Twas as if to close the doors
And to hide away in shame
chorus
Yes, and why, tell me why
Can't you see that it's not right
It's a lie, it's a lie
Don't hide your sorrow in the night
chorus
And you know the pain is double
But for her it's even worse
You must face her with the trouble
'Though it's hurting like a curse
chorus
Brother, you know you can't run away and hide
Is it you don't want to see her cries, is that why
You won't go and say
Gonna go and say, gonna go and say goodbye

They call me Mr. Pitiful
Baby thats my name now
They call me Mr. Pitiful
Thats how I got my fame

But people just don`t seem to understand
How someone can feel so blue
They call me Mr pitiful cause I lost someone just like you.

The call me Mr. Pitiful
This everybody know now
They call me Mr. Pitiful
Most everyplace I go.

But nobody seems to understand now,
How can a man sing such a sad song
When he lost everything that he had.

14. Two, from the Seventies: "Diary" by David Gates and Bread
"Diary," third verse:

I found her diary underneath a tree
and started reading about me
the words began to stick and tears to flow
her meaning now was clear to see
the love she'd waited for
was someone else, not me
wouldn't you know it
she wouldn't show it

and as I go through my life
I will wish for her, his wife,
all the sweet things she can find
all the sweet things they can find

God, I loved David Gates & Bread when I was growing up.

and "Alone Again, Naturally," just because it's so maudlin and so perfectly 70s. Right up there with "Feelings" and "You Light Up My Life."

19. Ani Difranco's "Untouchable Face"
think i'm going for a walk now
i feel a little unsteady
i don't want nobody to follow me
'cept maybe you
i could make you happy you know
if you weren't already
i could do a lot of things
and i do

tell you the truth i prefer
the worst of you
too bad you had to have a better half
she's not really my type
but i think you two are forever
and i hate to say it but
you're perfect together

so fuck you
and your untouchable face
and fuck you
for existing in the first place
and who am i
that i should be vying for your touch
and who am i
i bet you can't even tell me that much

two-thirty in the morning
and my gas tank will be empty soon
neon sign on the horizon
rubbing elbows with the moon
a safe haven of sleepless
where the deep fryer's always on
radio is counting down
the top 20 country songs
and out on the porch the fly strip is
waving like a flag in the wind
y'know, i don't look forward
to seeing you again soon
you'll look like a photograph of yourself
taken from far far away
and i won't know what to do
and i won't know what to say

except fuck you...

i see you and i'm so perplexed
what was i thinking
what will i think of next
where can i hide
in the back room there's a lamp
that hangs over the pool table
and when the fan is on it swings
gently side to side
there's a changing constellation
of balls as we are playing
i see orion and say nothing
the only thing i can think of saying

is fuck you...

27. A Classic: Tennessee Waltz
Tennessee Waltz
words and music by Redd Stewart and Pee Wee King

I was waltzing with my darlin' to the Tennessee Waltz
When an old friend I happened to see.
Introduced him to my loved one and while they were waltzing,
My friend stole my sweetheart from me.

I remember the night and the Tennessee Waltz.
Now I know just how much I have lost.
Yes I lost my little darlin' the night they were playing
The beautiful Tennessee Waltz.

28. There are a lot of Alkaline Trio "I just got dumped" songs
but based on you citing "I hate myself for loving you" I don't know if that is what you are looking for. Nonetheless, these are the two best IMO.

"My Friend Peter"

I dont care who you've been sleeping with these days
You're outta my hair
It's growing just above my smiling face that I wear
Every night I drink myself to sleep
Not thinking about you
Not thinking about anything at all

I don't care who you've been dining with these days
It's more than fair
Much rather be drinking anyways
With my friend Peter
Who lives so fucking far away
Yet not as far as you
Even though you live right down my fucking street

And I'm tired of sleeping with myself
I'm tired, all these drinks and drugs no longer help
I'm tired of lying about not thinking of you
Maybe my friend Peter can tell me what to do

I dont care who you've been kissing on these days
It's out of my hands
and in my mouth with such a pleasant taste
I need a beer to wash it all away without a trace
And then i'll drink 23 more
To wipe this stupid smile off my fucking face

I'm tired of sleeping with myself
I'm tired, all those drinks and drugs no longer help
I'm tired of lying about not thinking of you
Maybe my friend Peter can tell me what to do

Good Fucking Bye

So you broke down,
Trying to leave town,
I broke down crying on your return.
You left me, feeling awful,
I'll never see your face again.
You made for a bad lover's liver
You stole all the covers and busted my head.
You made me, such an asshole
I wish we'd never met

I'm tired of being bored,
I'm through with the headaches
Each night in my hands, they tremble like earthquakes
Under the table, under the daytime sky
Good-fucking-bye.

When you lose hope,
It's hard to cope,
Watching the tyranny with sober eyes,
From daybreak to sunset,
All hours in between are spent murdering time.
You made for a bad lover
You stole all the covers and fucked up my head,
You made me such an asshole
I wish we'd never met

I'm tired of being bored,
I'm through with the headaches
Each night in my hands,
they tremble like earthquakes,
Under the table,
under the daytime sky,
Good-fucking-bye

Good-fucking-bye

Good-fucking-bye

31. An Oldie from The Shields: You Cheated.
You cheated, you lied,
You said that you love me
You cheated, you lied
You said that you want me
Oh, what can I do
but just keep on loving you?

Love is something you know nothing about
Love is somethng you can't throw about
So please try to love me
Love me like I love you

Oh, please try to love me
Love me like I love you

You cheated, you lied
You said that you want me
You cheated, you lied,
You said that you love me
Oh, what can I do?
Oh, what can I do?
Oh, what can I do?

32. Shell come back to me... Cake
Last night I said to her
I didnt want to live inside a lie.
If she wants him
More than she wants me,
Let this be.
Shell come back to me.
Shell come back to me.
Shell come back.

All day I wait and wait
To hear her footsteps on my walkway.
She never came.
She never even called.
Shell come back to me.
Shell come back to me.
Shell come back.

Somehow I know it wont last.
Somehow I know it wont last too long.

Shell come back to me.
Shell come back to me.
Shell come back to me.
Shell come back to me.

39. Jimmy Eat World was my post-dumped band this summer, because I'm hecka emo
"Kill"

Well, you're just across the street
Looks a mile to my feet
I want to go to you
Funny how I'm nervous still
I've always been the easy kill
I guess I always will

Could it be that everything goes 'round by chance?
Or only one way that it was always meant to be
You kill me, you always know the perfect thing to say
I know what I should do, but I just can't walk away

I can picture your face well
From the bar in my hotel
I wish I'd go to you
I pick up put down the phone
Like your favorite Heatmiser song goes
It's just like being alone

Oh God, please don't tell me this has been in vain
I need answers for what all the waiting I've done means
You kill me, you've got some nerve, but can't face your mistakes
I know what I should do, but I just can't turn away

So go on love
Leave while there's still hope for escape
Got to take what you can these days
There's so much ahead
So much regret
I know what you want to say
I know it but can't help feeling differently
I loved you, and I should have said it
But tell me just what has it ever meant

I can't help it baby, this is who I am
Sorry, but I can't just go turn off how I feel
You kill me, you build me up, but just to watch me break
I know what I should do, but I just can't walk away

53. and there is this poor guy--
If someone stood up in a crowd
And raised his voice up way out loud
And waved his arm
And shook his leg
You'd notice him

If someone in a movie show
Yelled "fire in the second row,
This whole place is a powder keg!"
You'd notice him

And even without clucking like a hen
Everyone gets noticed, now and then,
Unless, of course, that personage should
be
Invisible, inconsequential me!

Cellophane
Mister cellophane
Should have been my name
Mister cellophane
'cause you can look right through me
Walk right by me
And never know I'm there!

I tell ya
Cellophane
Mister cellophane
Should have been my name
Mister cellophane
'cause you can look right through me
walk right by me
And never know I'm there. . .

Suppose you was a little cat
Residin' in a person's flat
Who fed you fish and scratched your
ears?
You'd notice him

Suppoose you was a woman wed
And sleepin' in a double bed beside one man for seven years
You'd notice him

A human being's made of more than air
With all that bulk, you're bound to see
him there

Unless that human bein' next to you
Is unimpressive, undistinguished
You know who. . .

Should have been my name
Mister cellophane
'cause you can look right through me
Walk right by me
And never know I'm there
I tell ya
Cellophane
Mister cellophane
Should I bend my name
Mister cellophane
'cause you can look right through me
Walk right by me
And never know I'm there
Never even know I'm there

56. Dixie Chicks "Cold Day in July"
The moon is full,
and my arms are empty.
All night long,
I've pleaded and cried.
You always said,
the day that you
would leave me
would be a cold day in July.

Your bags are packed,
and not a word is spoken,
I guess we've said
everything with "goodbye"...
Time moves so slow,
and promises get broken
on this cold day in July.

Sun's comin' up,
comin' up down on
mainstreet.
Children shout, as
they're running out to play.
Head in my hands,
here I am standing in my bare feet,
watchin' you drive away...
watchin' you drive away...

You said that we
were gonna last forever,
you said our love
would never die
It looks like spring,
and it feels like sunny weather...
but it's a cold day in July.

Sun's comin' up,
comin' up down on
mainstreet.
Children shout, as
they're running out to play.
Head in my hands,
here I am standing in my bare feet,
watchin' you drive away...
watchin' you drive away...

The moon is full,
and my arms are empty.
All night long, how I've
pleaded and cried.
You always said
the day that you would
leave me
would be a cold day in July

Here comes that cold day in July...

57. The 5th Demension - One Less Bell to Answer
One Less Bell to Answer by Burt Bacharach

One less bell to answer
One less egg to fry
One less man to pick up after
I should be happy
But all I do is cry

(Cry, cry, no more laughter) I should be happy
(Oh, why did he go)
Since he left my life's so empty

Though I try to forget it just can't be done
Each time the doorbell rings I still run
I don't know how in the world
To stop thinking of him
'Cause I still love him so
I spend each day the way I start out
Crying my heart out

One less man to pick up after
No more laughter, no more love
Since he went away (he went away)

(One less bell to answer) Why did he leave me
(Why, why, why did he leave)
(One less bell to answer) Now I've got one less egg to fry
One less egg to fry
(Why, why, why did he leave) And all I do is cry
(One less bell to answer) Because a man told me goodbye
(Why, why, why did he leave)
(One less bell to answer) Somebody tell me please
Where did he go, why did he go
(Why, why, why did he leave) How could he leave me

60. "Piss up A Rope" by Ween
My dinners on fire while she watches tv
And if youve ever wondered what its like to be me
She takes all my money and leaves me no smokes
Yells at my buddies and insults my folks
Im breakin my back doin the best that I can
Shes got time for the dog and none for her man
And Im no dope, but I cant cope
So hit the fuckin road and piss up a rope

You can piss up a rope
And you can put on your shoes, hit the road get truckin
Pack your bag, I dont need the ag
On your knees you big, booty bitch start suckin
You ride my ass like a horse in a saddle
Now youre up shits creek with a turd for a paddle
And I cant cope -- piss up a rope

Uh, you can piss up a rope and feel the pissy dribble
You can piss up a rope and watch me giggle
For the last 6 months I been packin your bag
You can wash my balls with a warm, wet rag
Till my balls feel smooth and soft like silk
Im sick of your mouth and your 2 percent milk
And Im no dope, but Ive lost all hope
So hit the fuckin road and piss up a rope

You can piss up a rope
And you can put on your shoes, hit the road get truckin
Pack your bag, I dont need the ag
On your knees you big, booty bitch start suckin
You ride my ass like a horse in a saddle
Now youre up shits creek with a turd for a paddle
And I cant cope -- piss up a rope

61. Less obvious, but "The Shadow of Your Smile" is sad and dump-ish.
(Yes, I'm on a jazz-proselytizing kick! :P)

The shadow of your smile
When you are gone
Will colour all my dreams
And light the dawn

Look into my eyes, my love, and see
All the lovely things, you are, to me

Our wistful little star
Was far too high
A teardrop kissed your lips
And so, so did I

Now when I remember spring
All the joy that love can bring
I will be remembering
The shadow of your smile

62. "Why'd Ya Do It?" Marianne Faithfull
Warning: This is a beer and cold pizza with a side of warmed over hate for breakfast song....

When I stole a twig from our little nest
And gave it to a bird with nothing in her beak,
I had my balls and my brains put into a vice
And twisted around for a whole fucking week.
Why'd ya do it, she said, why'd you let that trash
Get a hold of your cock, get stoned on my hash ?
Why'd ya do it she said, why'd you let her suck your cock ?
Oh, do me a favour, don't put me in the dock.
Why'd ya do it, she said, they're mine all your tools,
You just tied me to the mast of the ship of fools.
Why'd ya do it, she said, when you know it makes me sore,
'Cause she had cobwebs up her fanny and I believe in giving to the
poor.
Why'd ya do it, she said, why'd you spit on my snatch ?
Are we out of love now, is this just a bad patch ?
Why'd ya do it, she said, why'd you do what you did ?
You drove my ego to a really bad skid.
Why'd you do it, she said, ain't nothing to laugh,
You just tore all our kisses right in half!
Why'd ya do it, she said, why'd ya do what you did,
Betray my little oyster for such a low bid.
Why'd ya do it, she said, why'd you do what you did ?
You drove my ego to a really bad skid.
Why'd ya do it, she screamed, after all we've said
Every time I see your dick I see her cunt in my bed.
The whole room was swirling,
Her lips were still curling.
Why'd ya do it, she said, why'd you do what you did
Why'd ya do it, she said, why'd you do what you did
Why'd ya do it, she said, why'd ya do it, she said,
Why'd you do what you did ?
Oh, big grey mother, I love you forever
With your barbed wire pussy and your good and bad weather.
Why'd ya do it, she said, why'd you do what you did ...
Ah, I feel better now.

63. Thirsty Dog, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds:
I know you've heard it all before
But I'm sorry for this three year war
For the setting up of camps
and wire and trenches
I'm sorry for the other night
I know sorry it don't make it right
I'm sorry for things I can't even mention
I'm sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry
I'm sitting feeling sorry in the Thirsty Dog
I'm sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry
I'm feeling very sorry in the Thirsty Dog
You keep nailing me back into my box
I'm sorry I keep popping back up
With my crazy mouth
and jangling jester's cap
I'm sorry I ever wrote that book
I'm sorry for the way I look
But there ain't a lot that
I can do about that
I'm sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry
I'm sitting feeling sorry in the Thirsty Dog
I'm sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry
I'm feeling very sorry in the Thirsty Dog
I'm sorry about the hospital
Some things are unforgivable
That things simply cannot be forgiven
I was not equipped to know how to care
Amnd on the occassions I came up for air
I saw my life and wondered
what the hell I had been living
I'm sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry
I'm sitting feeling sorry in the Thirsty Dog
I'm sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry
I'm feeling very very sorry in the Thirsty Dog
I'm sorry about all your friends
I hope they'll speak to me again
I said before I'd pay for all the damages
I'm sorry it's just rotten luck
I'm sorry I've forgotten how to fuck
It's just that I think my heart
and soul are kind of famished
I'm sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry
I'm sitting feeling sorry in the Thirsty Dog
I'm sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry
I'm feeling very sorry in the Thirsty Dog
Forgive me, baby but don't worry
Love is always having to
say you're sorry
And I am, from my head
down to my shoes
I'm sorry that I'm always pissed
I'm sorry that I exist
And when I look into your eyes
I can see you're sorry too
I'm sorry, sorry, sorry
I'm sitting feeling sorry in the Thirsty Dog
I'm sorry, sorry, sorry
I'm feeling very sorry in the Thirsty Dog
I'm sorry, sorry, sorry
I'm feeling very thirsty in the Sorry Dog
I'm sorry, sorry, sorry
I'm feeling very sorry in the Thirsty Dog

64. Pet Names - Smash Mouth.
Just when I thought everything would be ok
Just when I started to believe that everything was going my way
Out came the cloud from under my feet
Crashing back down to reality

You used to call me pumpkin now I'm Halloween
Remember when I used to your jellybean
You used to call me schnookums and shit like that
Now you're after me with a baseball bat

I remember when I used to be the king
Your honey sweet darling baby everything
I used to be your tall dark mystery man
Now I'm just straight up history man

Just when I thought everything would be all right
Just when I started to believe that everything was out of sight
You left me with nothing but a scribbled note
That said I would no longer be your love boat
From here on out my pet name would be x
Your x your x your x

It used to be sugar then it turned into salt
I used to rock your world now I'm standing on a fault line
Lying naked in a hail storm in the dark
You're my little tornado and I am your trailer park
You used to call me names too cute to repeat
Like honey bunch hairy bear and piccolo peet
Goochy goochy goo goo gaga shit like that
Now you're after me screaming you dirty rat

I don't remember applying for a name change
So why is it you're calling me mister deranged
Psychopathic pornographic stinking drunk
Failing fast lying ass worthless punk

You used to call me sweety pie and baby doll
I guess another studs kicking in my stall
You'll probably call him superman or loverboy
You'll probably disregard him like a broken toy

Just when he thought everything was going his way
Just he started to believe everything was hunky dory
He'll look at that cloud that he's standing on
And with an itsy bitsy tiny little almost inaudible squeak
He'll notice
It's gone

From here on out his pet name would be x
Your x your x your x

Sweet pie?
No x
Honey bunch?
No x
Bubble butt?
No x
Pumpkin face
X

66. Bonnie Raitt -- "I can't make you love me"
Turn down the lights, turn down the bed
Turn down these voices inside my head
Lay down with me, tell me no lies
Just hold me close, don't patronize - don't patronize me

CHORUS: Cause I can't make you love me if you don't
You can't make your heart feel something it won't
Here in the dark, in these lonely hours
I will lay down my heart and I'll feel the power
But you won't, no you won't
'Cause I can't make you love me, if you don't

I'll close my eyes, then I won't see
The love you don't feel when you're holding me
Morning will come and I'll do what's right
Just give me till then to give up this fight
And I will give up this fight
CHORUS: Cause I can't make you love me if you don't
You can't make your heart feel something it won't
Here in the dark, in these lonely hours
I will lay down my heart and I'll feel the power
But you won't, no you won't
'Cause I can't make you love me, if you don't
