First CBGBs, now Madame Wongs is gone....
http://www.downtownnews.com/articles/2006/10/16/news/news_briefs/at06.txt

A Chinatown property once known as a hub for Los Angeles rock is getting a new life as a private home. The two-story structure on Sun Mun Way in Chinatown was once Madam Wong's Restaurant, a new wave and punk club that in the 1980s featured bands such as the Police, the Ramones and the Knack (think "My Sharona"). The new owners have separated the building's top floor into two units that they will live in, and will keep retail on the ground floor.

Another punk landmark bites it

2. what about the real Madame Wong's bands, west coast like
X, and Black Flag, and Fear, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, which was started as a side project by members of other punk bands.

Wong was a difficult person, but she provided a venue.
