Ughh...parenthood law: Your kid's illnesses are your illnesses.
The stepdaughter-equivalent came to us with a lovely stomach virus on Saturday. How generous of her to share!

:puke:

1. Hey, a "Step-illness"!
Take comfort knowing that your child's illnesses are also your co-workers.

2. You do know that there is an inverse correlation between
the kindness with which you handle your child's/stepchild's illness, and the severity of your own, once you come down with it?

3. Makes sense.
I treat sick people like the plague they are and I rarely get sick and it's always mild.

4. Yabbut, this only applies to your children!
I have this thing about puke, so when my eldest used to get to throwing up, I would be really hard on her if she didn't make it to the toilet. When she was two. Even my hardass husband thought I was appalling. Anyhow, one time she threw up all over me while I was rushing her to the bathroom, and I totally lost it. It was pitiful. Poor Kira. Anyhow, I came down with the bug the next day and I've never been so sick in all my life. It was lesson I'll never forget and since that time I've spent many a night sleeping on the bathroom floor with one kid or another, so I could be there to clean them up whenever they vomited or shit themselves helplessly. Thank GOD they're all old enough now to handle everything but the worst 'flu. :D

9. I can handle kid puke, no problem.
Kiddo was sometimes making it, sometimes not (and after last night, I understand why not). But she told me, after getting very sad and a little scared because she realized she wouldn't be with her mama (who lives 70 miles away and worked early Sunday morning), that her dad and I were doing a good job taking care of he.

Heck, I can handle adult puke, and I almost never catch the bugs.

10. It's a lucky kid whose mother is okay with puke!
I think in the early years we get all our kids' illnesses. Then our immune systems kick in and for several years we don't seem to catch anything, and then the cycle begins again. At least, that's how it seems to go in our household.

15. Man, I can't handle puke.
Edited on Mon Oct-16-06 05:05 PM by Evoman
I'm totally phobic about it. Its even gotten to the point where I don't want to have kids sometimes, just because they are nasty puke machines.

On edit: I have not puked, at all, in about 16 to 18 years (can't even remember the last time..must have been when I was about 9 or so).

17. That's what I call mind over matter.
The puke thing only lasts a few years. When you're contemplating children, obody ever tells you about the dreaded puke & watery diarrhea disease that lasts more than a week. Hint: put the vaseline on the baby's butt, not on the diaper "to save time" lol. Not that anybody other than my husband would be that dimwitted.

7. My sister's kids bring home every virus imaginable from school...
...and the parenthood law kicks in every time. :(

11. I've been immune
to most of my kid's illnesses. Their father, on the other hand, catches everything they have.

I believe it's because I'm around them so much and he's not so has never built up immunities.

They've puked, pooped, peed and snotted on me and I'm fine with it. Though I do prefer it now that they are older and make it to the bathroom or at least remember to use the bowl I've given them.

But they're mine. When my son's 13 year old buddy pucked all over the bed at 2 in the morning I'll admit it was a different story. Changing those sheets and helping him, the equivalent of a 3 year old in a man's body, was tough. Gawd, I folded the blankets up and threw them in the washer without looking. Four washes later there were still chunks. Eww!

16. I usually get pretty lucky...
and don't pick up what the kids bring home for me. Either that or I live in denial.

Second one's a possibility.

Now that I've made that declaration, brace yourselves...
