4. Mispronunciation
Some people say "mandatory" as man-day-tery. It isn't. It's man-dah-tory.

It always seems to be your boss that says it. :eyes:

10. I spoke with my sister and the children yesterday
I have a terrible time understanding any of them on the phone. Not mispronunciation, but the accent. And I think the children had trouble understanding me as well. :(

I told my bother-in-law I had to get used to his accent and he offered to speak very S-L-O-W-L-Y. ;)

;)

What's the difference between a buffalo and a bison?

(In Birmingham accent) You can't wash yer 'ands in a buffalo. :)

12. Even worse
it's Stourport! They don't have the big-city influence of Birmingham. ;)

The children are priceless. I just wish I could understand them. :(

9. They don't do eight hours work
They do two hours work one morning a week sitting on the board for some firm in the City, for which they get paid a hundred thousand a year, then they roll round to the Palace of Westminster to get wasted in one of the bars at lunch and then to the chamber for a little spot of legislating in the afternoon.

13. It's not the only case of stress migration.
Harass and decade are also both suffering from people moving the stress around. Stress is such a delicate subtle toy in the English language it really is painful - almost like fingers down a blackboard at times.
