1. It's not something I've ever wanted to do, but then, my idea
of a commune is stuck in the 1960's. I did read an interesting article in a magazine not long ago, however, about groups of people that are starting a new kind of commune -- more community-oriented, etc. If I were ever to do something like that, it would be with the "new style" commune.

2. I've lived in a couple of communal houses
I'd do it again, too. I like the idea of multiple adults (children too) in the same home or cluster of houses, sharing resources and responsibilities. Ideally, the collective would contain adults of a broad range of ages, some working, some retired, some homemakers, some kids of various ages, like an extended family of choice.

One daydream of mine is to acquire some property, put up a central lodge on it with a great room, kitchen, and bathrooms, and then start adding cabins around it. Eventually, it would be like a little village, with both common and private spaces.

3. I'd love to do it.
Living alone stinks. There's no sense of community.

Trouble is, who do you find that you can trust? Especially in this day and age?

4. My uncle lived in a hippie commune for a while.
Like, about a month. He discovered that the work was too hard.

5. Have done it a few times over the years.
It's great when everyone gets along, but it can be a living hell with crazy people (and I can be one of those, I admit.)

6. That would be cool except for putting up with other people
A dog commune would be great.

7. Did it, liked it, want to do it again
The best part of a communal house is there's always someone around to do something with or talk to when you need to.

8. alternative communities can be great.
they work best when centered around certain common interests.
rather than just living together to live together.
