I injured my foot yesterday and my cat had to go to the vet hospital for emergency surgery. He's still there and I have to go get him tomorrow. :-( But there are a lot of other people worse off in the world.

6. I am sorry
please do not blame yourself. We cannot control things such as that no matter how hard we think we can try to do so. We expect so much from this great big holiday--too much, I think. I hope your dad recovers in a very short time.

8. I don't know the whole story
but sounds like your dad has cancer. I'm sorry to hear that.

Don't blame yourself for his fever - usually when someone with cancer has a low white blood cell count and gets an infection (ie, develops a fever), it is due to the bacteria that live on his own body. Like the bacteria on the skin, in the mouth, in the stomach etc, so don't beat yourself up - he probably didn't catch anything from you. He should be fine - he's getting treatment in the hospital and you can celebrate Christmas when he gets home.

think good thoughts!

12. Yep it's Leukemia....he's had it for over a year and had a relapse.....
...a couple months ago...but was supposed to have gone back into remission a couple weeks ago...now I'm not so sure they were right about that with this happening.

It's almost impossible to think good thoughts with the state of the world and now this all goin' the way it is...I'm losin' the ability to lighten up....just a couple weeks ago my Papaw died of a sudden heart attack...my Dad's Dad...now this hope of remission is bein' dashed...and I'm comin' down with strep or the flu...just doesn't seem there is a bright side anymore. :(

11. If it'll make you feel better........
I lost my dad when I was 24....26 years ago. Be thankful he's still with you. I know how this season can make these things even worse, but try to focus on the upside if you can.

All the best!

It is NOT your fault..he has a weakened immune system and infections are opportunistic.

My prayers will be with you and your family.

19. emotions are running high...
....this time of year and everyone's either sick or afraid of being sick. Take care of yourself. Ease up on yourself. Sometimes the hardest holidays turn out to be the ones in which we find small miracles. Do what you can and don't feel guilty about the germs your dad got. They're everywhere!

That does suck. My heart goes out to you. But you couldn't have known, and you don't really know where these bugs come from.

I'll be thinking of you and hoping you can see your Dad real soon.

23. I am really sorry to hear this jus-the-facts
Are you sure the leukemia is bacK? It could just be a nasty fever. When I was going through treatment I was home doing well in remission and got fever's out of no where and had to go into the hospital and get anit-biotics until it went away. With all the tests they would do while I was there, they never found out why I had them.
You know more then I, but this is just one possible scenerio, I would rather hear of your Dad fighting a fever then his leukemia coming back.
Lots of positive good thoughts heading your way my friend.
Tell your Dad to stay tough, and be as positive as you can.
WOuld you be able to visit him if you were to gown up and wear a mask? I highly doubt it, but it might be worth asking the nurses or doc.

33. So sorry to hear your bad news
We are in the same boat it seems. My mom was diagnosed with lung cancer about two months ago. She was in the hospital and had radiation and chemo and was tolerating both so well that she was released. We were all very happy and feeling very positive.
Then, last Thursday she was rushed to the hospital with a very high fever and put on antibiotics until they got it under control. Of course this prevented her from regaining the strength she had lost after radiation and chemo, so now, instead of releasing her, they moved her to a rehab hospital just this afternoon.
She's very lonely and sad, and when I read your story, I couldnt help but feel so deeply for you and your Dad and what you are both going through.
Yeah, Christmas is just another day, but it means so much to be able to spend it with our parents, especially once we become adults and realize our time together is only getting shorter with every passing year.
I will say most heartfelt prayers for you and your Dad on this Christmas Eve, and wish you both Christmas miracles.
