When does your family unit open the presents?
I have always opened them on late christmas eve. All the little ones can play with their toys for awhile, then go to bed. Santa obviously arrives before midnight, as the gifts are all under the tree for days.

1. We do it this way.
The kids get to open one gift on Christmas Eve and Santa comes in the night and does his thing, and then they get to open the rest Christmas day.

2. One present Christmas eve,
the rest Christmas morning. Otherwise Christmas morning is a complete let-down. We tried one year opening everything Christmas eve and hated it.

3. We also open ours on Christmas eve...
My son goes with his Mom at noontime tomorrow, so we've started opening gifts on Christmas eve...this way he has some time to enjoy the gifts before he's off to Mom's...

I always save the stocking for him to open on Christmas morning (plus this year I got him a skateboard that will be sitting there on Christmas morning for him).

Funny, I can't stand this time of year (stress!!!), but once Christmas eve gets here, I really love the next 36 hours...

Happy holidays everyone!!!

6. When we used to do presents, we had RULES, dammit
Christmas eve, they got to open a present...we would steer them towards one we wanted them to open..

Xmas morning they emptied the stockings that Santa filled..

When we all were awake, the youngest would hand out all the presents to whomever they were addressed..

Everyone would have their own stack of presents..

The youngest opened all of theirs, and then the next oldest , until we were all done..

That way everyone could see what everyone else got and people could be thanked..

Santa never brought the gifts...just the stocking stuff.. that way they never really "had to believe that Santa wrestled a bicycle throught the chimney"..:)

But this year my family will not be getting together until Sunday the 28th. I don't know if I can wait that long.

13. New pajamas on Christmas Eve
That way the kids look good for the Christmas Day pictures! Gifts go under the tree after bedtime (they know we put them there, but it's TRADITION) and get unwrapped in the morning...stockings emptied first, then the big stuff.

Christmas afternoon we go to Mom's and we exchange those gifts.
