Poll question: Am I an online games ass****?
Edited on Wed Dec-24-03 02:24 PM by bunnyj
I just started playing bingo online. They usually have 10-15 tables or so operating. I jump from table to table, hitting ones that look at least halfway done. If I think I can win, I'll stay and play. If not, I move on right away. I don't like to sit and play an entire game from start to finish, it's too boring.

I don't pay attention to the online chatter at the bottom of the screen, but I got a message from one of the participants. I've had a run of good luck today, so I got flamed: called an asshole and told to get a f***ing life! I did not respond, but then I was accused of being a stalker (actually they called it a "stocker")because I went from game to game. I still did not respond.

Anyway, I have no idea if there is an etiquette rule about this. So, in the online game world etiquette, am I an asshole? Or just playin' the game?

1. I wouldn't pay attention
Sometimes you want to relax and do something without having to chat with people. You want to be left alone. But there are some people out there who insist that you are a horrible person if you don't wrap yourself around them and their social chatter. It's a form of selfishness, insisting that you have to pay attention to them.

Chatting should be voluntary, not mandatory.

2. That's not the issue
I don't think it matters whether you are talkative or not. "Cherrypicking" games you are likely to win though is another matter. That is kinda rude to the more casual gamers.

3. Is it rude?
It doesn't seem so to me, but then again, I really don't pay any attention to any of the other gamers. I have no idea who is entering or leaving games that I'm playing, and if someone wins I don't check to see when they entered the game, or if they're cherry picking. I just move on to another table.

However, I don't enjoy being purposely rude, so I appreciate the heads-up!

4. I NEVER NEVER talk in those games.
I like to play card games on yahoo when I am bored. I usually play Gin. I always get called names if I win because I never talk in the chat room.

I am there to play cards, not chat with some stranger. And, when I play a card game in person, my best friend usually sit silently and play the hand out. We talk in between. Cards is serious business, don't ya know. :)
