3. Spend some time together
Edited on Wed Dec-24-03 04:23 AM by Voice_of_Europe
From my and my friends perspective Christmas in Europe has lost much of its church dictated religious meaning some time ago.. many people in my generation "do" Christmas mostly to not hurt their parents religious feelings...

A newer tendency is that Christmas also starts to loose its commercial meaning. Many people I know stopped giving gifts except to children in the family. It's always fun to make gifts to children...

Personally I like to make gifts to someone I like but only if I have a nice idea... if I need to think hard about what to give then it means stress and is not a true gift...

Our family basically agreed that we commit Christmas just as a happy time where everybody comes together and has some days of rest, even mother. Some years ago Christmas meant total stress and cooking and cleaning for her, now she too can really enjoy it. She was hardest to convince to let go of of old traditions for her own good...

But that certainly doesn't work in every family... I'm sure that for some people it can mean PURE stress too just be with their family and spend time together doing nothing...

Hope you can all enjoy Christmas with the ones you love...

I bought the dixie chicks new cd for my mammie. I bought Hillary's book for my pappy.

7. Just my love this year.
Due to the fact that two weeks ago I was facing being homeless. In short, it took every sent myself and Sapphocrat could scrounge together just to secure a roof over my head. Because I am renting, I had to come up with bond money, and four weeks rent in advance, plus pay connection fees for my telephone service.

So I have told everyone in my family, I simply cannot afford gifts this year.

If i had the money, the first thing I would have done was purchased flight tickets for Sapphocrat and her mum to spend Christmas here. At least Sappho and I would have been together, but alas, it wasn't meant to be. This will be our second Christmas and New Year apart.

8. Sounds really creative too! This year it's very low key
Edited on Wed Dec-24-03 05:07 AM by Dover
I am giving some friends and family members massages (which I'll do myself...it's something I'm gifted at and I've had requests every year), sometimes I'll make something if it's fun and meaningful.
Not this year. Did that for some birthdays, though.
Also I really enjoy giving experiences...whether it's tickets to a play or concert, a class, a trip, etc...just depends on the person.
Last year I gave my high school aged niece her first train trip (sleeper car) which she says she'll never forget. This year I've arranged for some summer activities for my younger nieces (which will ALSO be a gift for their parents..my siblings).
I like giving music CD's when I or the recipient is excited about a musician. The same with books and/or books-on-tape. But, as I said in another thread, the really GOOD STUFF is quality time spent together.

10. Down payment for my daughter's house
She'll have to settle for a food processor. A cheap food processor! I almost had a little photo album from Havre, MT that I was going to put baby pictures and things in because her baby album burned in a house fire years ago. But somebody else got it. Whoda thunk there would be competition for a photo album from Havre MT???
