Normally I just disregard the "Orange alerts"
but unfortunately, this time I'm feeling a little apprehensive. Apparantly there are six cities that are supposedly most at risk and I'm going to one of them for Christmas - San Francisco. Ridge said that we could expect something even worse than 9/11 but I don't trust any of them; but at the same time I'm a little worried. One of the other six cities is L.A. which is where I would be (since I live here) if I wasn't going to S.F. so I guess I'm at risk either way. Any words of wisdom from my fellow DU'ERS?

4. Good point...gee, I thought since they found
Sadamm Hussain, we wouldn't have to worry about this stuff anymore since he was responsible for the terrorist act of 9/11 and everything. Gosh, someone needs to remind Tom Ridge that since they found Sadamm Hussain.....(lol)

3. No need to worry...
this is exactly what Bush wants you to do. Remember, Hitler had the Germans fear for their lives all the time. That's how he got by with what he did.

Instead, have no fear and enjoy your holidays! :hi:  :toast:

Osama bin Laden digging a "spider hole" in a location where you would least expect. :D LOL

On edit concerning our new kitty, if he ever does a terrorist attack on our Christmas tree, I may secretly call him "Pussama Bin Catten."

8. Relax.
While no one can guarantee your safety, think of the statistics: even on 9/11, statistically speaking, you would probably not have been hurt if you had been in either NYC or Washington D.C., or had flown in a commercial jet on American Airlines or Delta.
So, that said, you can't live your life in fear.
What is the alternative? Hide in a cave for the next 10 years?
We should always be cautious. And maybe, if it is out of our ordinary mode, it would be prudent to stay away from certain places and situations right now IF WE CAN AVOID THEM.
But that doesn't mean we should stop doing the things we ordinarily do, including visiting relatives or friends for Christmas.
So -- go. Enjoy. And do what you think is right.
Of course, if an inner voice is telling you not to do something, listen. But don't live in fear.

9. Well...
I can tell you that I'm with you. When I heard about the orange alert this time, it was definitely much more scary than usual. Part of it was that my mother was flying from O'Hare to SFO the next day....

But, yeah...there's some kind of dread settling over the country, it feels like.

I think it stems from guilt. People know that the Iraq thing is just going to give the terrorists more ammunition, and that eventually they're going to hit us again.

Thanks, Bush.

13. And I bet Pres. Bartlett aka Martin "Bush is a moron" Sheen
who was also antiwar would say "Don't say I didn't warn you, my fellow Americans." :(

Here's a joke: What's the difference between George Bush and Martin Sheen? Both aren't really the President, they just play one on TV , but Martin Sheen does a more credible job.

10. Keep your eyes open and pay attention, just in case
that said, lets put this in perspective

The chances of yhou being a victim of Terror for 2003 so far is exactly ZERO

The chances in 2002 were exactly ZERO

The chances in 2001 were NEXT to zero

the chances in 2000 were ZERO

You have a better chance of dying on the way to the airport in a wreck.. or of winning the lotttery

14. You have a better chance of winning it than the odds
of being a victim of a Terror attack in the US... unless /sarcasm/ you count the frontal attack of the bush admininstration on the American people /sarcasm/

16. Has the supposed terror threat level EVER dipped below Yellow?
Doesn't it just alternate between yellow and orange all the time? What does that mean?

And when they announce the terror threat level, what is the average citizen supposed to do with this information? I ignore the supposed threat level, because they give no helpful guidelines to go along with it.

19. They will NEVER use Blue or Green..
The whole purpose for their little "Christmas Tree of Terror" was to impress on us the fact that "everything's changed since 9-11".. Blue and green represent aspects of tranquility.. We will never see those two again (at least in MY lifetime).

The USofA has had its chickens come home to roost.. We have spent decades pissing on people all over the world.. We have exploited them for their resources, and handed them empty promises in return.. If AlQaued did not exist, it would be a different organization..

Countries cannot attack us because of our military, but they know how to slip that stilleto between our ribs when we are not looking.. That's the technique that will work.. The reminders to shop are pathetic to us and ridiculous to the rest of the world.. Life in America IS shopping.. We are shopping and consuming ourselves to death.. People around the world resent us , and the government still cannot figure it out..

We will always be on yellow or orange.. I fear that the dim bulbs we have will only recognize a red alert AFTER the fact, and that would end shopping , so they are unlikely to use it..

20. In my opinion the "orange alerts"
are merely a way to accustom us to live in a police state. Making people feel nervous about flying or being in certain specific states will make a heightened alert on or around November 4, 2004 a lot more logical and reasonable.

The only thing that's changed since 9/11/01 is a steady erosion of civil liberties in preparation for the already-mentioned police state.
