So Game 7 of the World Series is on October 29
That is the night before Devil's Night.

So if the Murder City Kittens (Tigers) win, how much of Detroit do you think will burn down? Will all of eastern Michigan become one giant firestorm a la Dresden?

1. Thankfully, all of that will be averted when they lose to the Mets in 5.

2. Probably
But that was one of the better celebrations after a playoff win I've seen.

3. Detroit has had the Devils' Night situation well in hand for years
Armies of volunteers patrol the city, there is a youth curfew that goes into effect the week before and for the last ten years or so there have been no more fires on the night before Halloween than on any other night.

Furthermore, while Detroit still has myriad problems, it no longer has the most murders per capita either.

That was very unkind.

6. Devil's Night situation in hand?
Yes, it is quite normal for towns throught the nation to impose a 6 p.m. curfew and have "armies of volunteers" patrol the streets to prevent the residents from burning the town down. Yes, that is quite normal. In fact the greatest cities in the world (Paris, Venice, Singapore) have to take similar measures to prevent widespread arson.

That said, Go Murder City Kittens!!!

9. A bad situation has been corrected
Other cities have had their own problems. I wanted to ask why you're being so hard on Detroit until I read your profile and see that you're from Chicago. So, I guess it's just sour grapes because the Sox and Cubs didn't make the playoffs.

This is great for the city and I don't think there will be any trouble if the Tigers win it all. There was nothing but jubilation and well behaved crowds on Saturday.

Go Tigers!

12. I am rooting for the Murder City Kittens.
I am very glad the Sox didn't make the playoffs. The Cubs, well, I gave up hope a long time ago and I am resigned to it.

That said, if they do win it all I recommend staying up all night with your garden hose on.

13. If there are any flames
Which I don't expect, I don't think they'll make it all the way to Ann Arbor where I live! But my parents are native Detroiters so I have a soft spot for the city and I love all the pro teams even (gulp) the Lions.

4. The 2001 Series went until Nov. 4
Didn't even start until Oct. 27 — which is weird, since the LCS were over on Oct. 22.

8. I'm sure there will be riots of some form!
The Tigers are the team I badly want to win the series this year, and if they did, we'd actually get a team that deserves it this year.

15. Murder City Kittens???
Edited on Mon Oct-09-06 02:37 PM by MrsGrumpy
Thanks. That's real nice. None of Detroit has burned down on Devil's Night, after the Red Wings won or after the Pistons won. Even though everyone was really excited about the Tigers beating the Yankees... Not one building burned or one car was turned over because of it. I am sick and tired of this shit. There are DUers who live in Detroit you know. I work most days down in Detroit and have yet to be murdered. It's ignorance such as this which propagates the bad name.

On reading this, I clicked on your profile.. Chicago? ER... Pot MEET Kettle.
