Saw Jesus Camp yeserday...

The children's pastor in the documentary is from Lee's Summit MO (a suburb of Kansas City). Missouri is all over this movie and for that I apologize, even though I am not a native Missourian. These kids and their families are frightening. In one scene a 12 year old named Levi is being home "schooled" by his mother. She is "instructing" (more like indoctrinating) him about global warming. Levi rattles off some statistic about global temperatures increasing "only" .6 degrees over the last decade. His mom says something to the effect that people use that as a political tool and it really isn't that much of an increase is it?

The nine year old girl in the movie, Rachael, is very well spoken. Just a shame that intelligence is being used to further the Bushian agenda. In one scene she is at a bowling alley reading a Chick tract. When it's her turn to bowl she says a prayer hoping for a strike, she fails. While at the bowling alley she walks up to a total stranger and tells her that she was lead by God to this person because he has plans for her. She hands the woman the Chick tract she was reading ealier. The woman gives an "isn't she cute" chuckle.

At the week long camp in Devil's Lake North Dakota, the kids are told that George W Bush is a holy man. Good thing there were a few liberals in the audience because there were some of us who hacked at the thought of George W Bush being called a holy man who surrounds himself with "spirit filled" people. Trouble is they are filled with spirits that want to serve the dark side.

In one scene the kids are given a hammer which they then use to break coffee cups and say they want "good government!" They also are lead in a chant asking for "righteous judges." The camp takes place before Bush nominated Alito to the Supreme Court.

For all of this these people receive TAX BREAKS by NOT paying taxes on the church or I assume the religious camp. So, we are in part susidizing the rise of the religious right and the indoctrination of the next generation.

1. I saw it last night

What a disturbing movie. I had a headache afterward. Those people are brainwashing and abusing those kids. The kids were hysterical and frightened. The woman running it is a complete narcissist. The children are being indoctrinated and turned away from their own innate abilities to think critically. The one little blond boy who struggled with believing really broke my heart. He was the only person in the movie who could see that other paths might be legitimate - the only non True Believer - and he was suffering so much for his insight. The movement is extremely scary. Everyone should see this movie. It really brings home the reality of how these horrible people are damaging their children.

11. What I'd like to see is a follow-up in about five

years or so to see what the kids are doing. I suspect that the well spoken nine year old, Rachael, will not be as fundie. She is just too smart and I think she'll start asking questions her mom and dad will not want to answer.

I suspect that the ten year old girl, Tory, will probably not be a fundie as well. She is way too into herself and once she starts to sprout shall we say and boys begin to pay attention to her biology will win out over theology.

Levi, he's 12 already and if he hasn't begun questioning what he's been told then he may not. There was a part of me that saw a spark of skepticism when he and his mom were discussing evolution and global warming. He is being home schooled and like kids in school around the country, he knows it is best to give the instructor the answer he/she wants to hear. I don't know but I hope he is more skeptical.

Yet was not needed indeed. I got about a 1000 word email from one dude who I know on there and he never once defended the camp or the indoctrination process that goes on.

He defended Christians and bashed Liberals. I replied to him, but haven't checked my email to see if he's replied back.

Dude actually said there was nothing wrong with getting kids engaged. LMAO. Said that I was only upset because they were not towing the "left wing" line.

Most specificially, he was beside himself because I used the words "Fascist" and "Nazi" prompting him to demand an apology from me (his first post to me was to call me an ignorant piece of shit, but anyway). I told him that if he could prove to me I was inaccurate that I would surely offer an apology, but I would NOT DO IT simply because he was offended. Him being offended is his fooking problem. If I call something wrong, explain it to me, I'll take in the facts and decide if I apologize. As of yet, NO APOLOGY.

13. The kids are leaving the megachurches but the article

goes on to say they are finding faith via Christian music and such. The megachurches don't really create community and it's community that people are looking for when they seek out a church. With membership the size of some small towns how can people find community? A synagogue is considered large if it has more than a thousand families!

If the kids don't feel connected to the megachurches as teens there is little chance they will return as adults. If they don't return then that is one less coin in the collection plate.

I'll make a prediction right now that within 10-15 years some kid from this camp will grow up and

-Kill a doctor who performs abortions
-Bombs a clinic
-Bombs a gay bar
-Kills a professor of evolutionary biology (among about 20 other science disciplines)

That's not going out an a limb there I know, but I can tell you when it will happen...When the Dems have power. Bill Clinton being in power during the fiasco in Waco, Texas pushed McVeigh over the edge until he decided to "take action."

Had the Waco incident occured with G.H. Bush in the White house, I challenge the McVeigh attack does not happen. These people are delusional and paranoid and having "their enemies" or "the enemies of God" (see, Democrats) in the White House makes them more desperate.

I'll party like hell if we take the WH in 2008, but will keep my ass covered from these religious fundy-freaks. They've already murdered on a small scale (olympic bombings, abortion clinics, dragging gay people to death), but the large hit could come if they believe they are losing the war (Hitler started gassing more undesirables LATER in the war when it was obvious he was losing).
