Beastly children in the store today
God, I despise people who won't supervise their kids. They're not doing them any favors - the little darlings will grow up so wild and obnoxious that no one will like them except for their blind parents.

Two women in the meat department, guess they hadn't seen each other in a while so they stopped right in the way and visited for about 3/4 of an hour while their kids ran absolutely wild.

Three little girls, around 7, 8 and maybe 12 and one little boy of around 11. I was working my wine which is right next to the meat - these kids were poking every single wrapped package of meat in the case, picking them up, moving them around, making stacks out of them. Moms remain oblivious.

Then they commandeered the cart, the three girls hung off the front and both sides and the boy ran up and down the aisle with them while they all shrieked with delight. Mind you, it was busy - other customers trying to shop, me trying to work, displays in danger of being knocked every which way - moms remain oblivious. Blah, blah, blah.

Then the little boy decides to climb on the pallet of boxes I have in one corner that I was working off. Moms are right near it - ignore it. I said to the kid, "Please don't climb on that," in a friendly voice - the little shit just leaves one foot on it and stares at me as if to challenge me. So I say to his mother, "Excuse me," pointing to the kid, "Is this yours? Because you need to supervise it."

She got all huffy that I could possibly refer to her little darling as an "it" but got the point - sort of. The kid kept off my pallet but they continued to run wild. Eventually, the mothers moved on to the bakery where they got all the kids cookies which they really needed. :sarcasm:

I love kids - have three of my own and three grandkids but I NEVER let my kids annoy others like that. And I'm sure there are people here who will label me a kid-hater for this post - I don't hate kids - I hate people who don't take care of their damn kids.

1. don't you see, don't you get it?
they're not "beastly" they're "precious/precocious/engaged in a learning odyssey"

they'll grow up to think the world revolves them. either that or they'll spray their classroom one day in a hail of gunfire.

3. I think you showed admirable restraint.
I'm all out of restraint. Lately if I'm in a public place with out of control kids I start barking orders. I've had a sucked up year and am not afraid of delinquent parents.

4. I love it that you said 'beastly'
I probably would've used another adverb.

Like, "orphan."

8. And if the little 'angels'...
Edited on Sun Oct-08-06 07:10 PM by Kutjara
...had injured themselves in any way, their suddenly concientious parents would have been raising hell and suing the store left and right. You'd probably even have taken some of the blame for simply being nearby and not preventing the 'accident.'

It's parents like these that are the reason our society has become infantalized. All sharp edges are filed off; every product contains screeds of inane and insulting 'warnings', moral 'guardians' pass laws restricting us more and more in what we can see and listen to. All because some parents would rather do anything else in the world than look after their children.

I think it's time to let natural selection start to work on the human race again. Lets start by dispensing with child-proof caps. I predict an improvement in the human stock within one generation.

10. Good for you for saying something.....
People who won't discipline their kids in public should expect to be told to do it.

12. I get so sick of these self-absorbed assholes
Not only were the kids running wild but those two were taking up half the aisle for their little coffee klatch. I've seen kids crash on carts when the whole thing has toppled over because they're hanging off the sides of it (just like these little darlings were) and I had several display stacks of wine out that they missed by inches.

No, I no longer keep my mouth shut. As a matter of fact, had the kid kept climbing on my stuff or had they run into another customer, I was ready to tell both women to take their conversation - and their bratty kids - outside.

13. I had a kid who was a terror
I just stopped taking him with me until he could behave himself in public. That meant not going to restaurants or supermarkets. I did not consider him a little darling. He was just a very active child that needed a lot of supervision. If I wanted to enjoy myself and relax, he had to stay home.

He grew up to be a delightful young man who now teaches 1st grade. Now he has to deal with out of control little darlings. Karma is a bitch!
