I smell Oscar nods for Nicholson and DiCaprio, at bare minimum.

Anyone else see it?

3. Truly a roller coaster ride!
I really got into it, the characters, I said "oh god dammit" aloud at one point. You probably know which.

A little bloody, but just a fantastic film. What a cast.

7. Yep.
I bet Jack walks away with another Oscar for this one. Sheen had a great supporting role, as did Mark Wahlberg. Dicaprio and Damon were just great.

9. I thought Alec Baldwin also did a good job...I wonder about the
accents, the Boston "R"?? What do Native Bostonians think about it? I thought they all did very well but, what do I know

23. It's hard for a non-Bostonian to get the accent right, but
It came across fine to me. For the Boston "R" I will give high marks to Matt Damon and Mark Whalberg. Then again they had an unfair advantage-they're from Boston anyway. You really don't pay much attention to it as the you get deeper into the film, the story and acting kind of hold your attention.

30. Alec Baldwin's was really good. He's from Long Island, and they don't say
their 'r's' anyway.

4. You won't be disappointed!
Some may be turned off from some violence, but those are really missing a great movie.

12. DVD or Movie Theater?
Edited on Sat Oct-07-06 08:44 PM by benny05
I'm wondering if it is more violent than Munich or Syrianna. I'm a gal who will watch a somewhat violent film at the movie theatre if it has twists and turns or that raises political/social issues. Otherwise, if it is gratitutious violence only to add to the excitement of males, I'd rather wait for a DVD.

15. I would say movie theater
I would say the violence is about the same as Syriana. There is language as well, but the acting, storyline, and direction are superb.

There are many twists, to the point where I was shocked in the movie, and that doesn't happen often.

18. It is violent and bloody on a Tarantino scale
but the movie on a whole is EXCELLENT. FILMED IN BOSTON!!! OH YEAH!! Had a great time picking out the areas that were in the screen shots.
I give high marks to DiCaprio, Nicholson, and Matt Damon. This is not a brain-dead violent action movie. There is a story here but there is some pretty hard violence in it. I am not sure if you are familiar with Boston, the Irish mob, Whitey Bulger, and the FBI but throughout the movie there are definite parallels to what went on in Boston involving the FBI and mobster yet-to-be-caught Whitey Bulger.

If you compare it to Syrianna or Munich, I have seen both, I would rate it as more violent. Martin Scorcese has never made movies for the squeamish.

I saw Syriana at the theatre but, I have not seen Munich ...

This is worth the money and deserves the big screen:popcorn::popcorn::popcorn:

21. Definitely!!
I would be damned surprised if at least someone from this cast does not get an Oscar nod. Even for Martin Sheen or
Mark Whalberg for their supporting roles
And once again I feel vindicated in declaring-MATT DAMON IS A FAR BETTER ACTOR THAN BEN AFFLEK!!

When it comes to going to the movies I will see just about anything, no matter how the critics pan it. On the way out I may say "That really sucked!" or "Eh. It was OK" or "WOW! That was awesome!" "The Departed" was a "Wow! That was awesome!" movie.

13. Read an extremely positive review.
In the WSJ which is actually a great newspaper, as long as you ignore the editorial pages. Possibly the most positive review I have ever read, for any movie, anywhere.

14. It's also hilarious!
There's a rich vein of filthy smartass guy humor running all the way through the film; my favorite line being from Damon's character after his PAL touch-football team gets beaten the Fire Department's team: "Firefighters gettin' pussy for the first time in the history of fire. Or pussy."

17. I work for Warner Bros. -- that's one of our movies!!
I have seen parts of it at work, but not the whole movie.

One of the guys I work with who has seen it says that it is awesome. This is a guy who sees everything and is very critical -- so if he says it is good, it must be good!

Hopefully this movie can stop the bleeding from Poseidon.

27. You know what? The movie business is not hard to get into.
Movie business people want hard working, responsible employees like everyone else.

It's STAYING in the business that's the toughest.

A lot of people start out as production assistants (basically a "gopher"). They work on a few shows and maybe get noticed and then get a small promotion.

If you want to PM me, I will answer any questions that you might have.

I know Austin, Texas does a lot of filming also.

29. I think one reason some longer movies seem TOO long
now days is because the first 20-30 minutes are filled with trailers and commercials...I am tired before the "real" movie has even started...
