$800 to get a cat's teeth cleaned? Re: Daddy's accident/lost teeth
That's the estimate I just got. :wtf:

I learned that Daddy did not actually lose any teeth. Somehow he tore his gums up, that's it. But it's bad. It's infected (I knew that because of his breath's odor - omfg). I have to give him antibiotics twice a day for a week.

For the second time this year the vet recommended teeth cleaning. For the hundredth time this year I was reminded that I have to do this. For the second time I got this estimate of $800.

How much did it cost you to have your cat's teeth cleaned?

Daddy

1. That seems pretty exorbitant, is it due to hazardous conditions, or
something else?

4. His teeth are in really bad shape. They're almost always a little
bloody. He had a pretty hard few years - crappy owners who fed him fast food or let him fend for himself. Now he's got us, and we do our best, but we spend more on him in vet bills than on all our other cats combined. And this one, my god, we can't come close to affording this.

I will find another vet for this procedure. I'll show them this estimate and find out why my vet charges so much.

5. Heh. That must be it.
He is very handsome, isn't he? I'm proud to be his caretaker.

"He's got the do re me?" I am so behind in current colloquialisms.

3. that seems a little high. it was $250 each for my three dogs.
But the vet gave me a volume discount. :)

I think the extra cost may be for extra heart monitoring (aside from the usual stuff); or for special anesthesia. My dogs were healthy, so the vet didn't push for a bunch of extra things. But your kitty might need more due to the infection.

My dogs have only had their teeth cleaned twice (once for the younger one), but I dental problems can really lead to a lot of suffering as they age. Most dogs and cats probably are probably clean enough teeth with brushing or bones, but taking care of dental problems will save your animal from suffering and also be cheaper in the long run.

8. $75
done while removing a mass from the lower gum. Total was $225, $50 of that was for the blood workup before the surgery.

My vet is by no means the least expensive in the area.

9. It doesn't cost that much to get MY teeth cleaned
I don't remember exactly but it was less than $300 the last time Oops got his teeth cleaned. I'd shop around.

10. It cost about $500 each for our cats teeth cleaning
Edited on Sat Oct-07-06 11:50 AM by KC2
But I didn't want them to lose their teeth, so I figured it needed to be done. Especially since our cats need to eat dried cat food!

11. Usually around $500 or so.
The most ever paid was $1,200, but that was when Papa had all but two of his teeth extracted due to stomatitis, but the woman (read: saint) who runs the shelter actually picked up that bill before I adopted him. If they are in bad shape, though, that may be about right, unfortunately. :( Poor guy.
