So what are folks going as for Halloween?
I am going as a Slytherin, from Harry Potter.

I've got a black robe and a green and gray plaid skirt already. I need a tie and some tights and it's all in the bag.

I am trying to decide whether I need a sweater or not. I am going with a non-film version of the costume, so I can do whatever I like. :D

That is the name of my character's costume that I have made for Halloween very simple, yet gets lots of attention.

3. A pirate.
I got this bandanna that looks like brown leather, and it has torn black fishnet stuff tied in with it. And I got this really long vest that looks like brown leather too.. and a skull ring and necklace and I have a white shirt that has flowy arms that's perfect. PLUS We have this old fashioned beer bottle that I'm going to fill with something and pretends its rum. :7

9. Roman legionary
I thought I might try for later in the empire (e.g. after 100 AD) since a) that was when the Romans began to wear trousers and long sleeves -- it gets colder around here after mid-October; and b) by then most of my first-century stuff (armour, helmet, gladius) will likely be propped in a bookstore window advertising their history selection.

I have the Osprey costuming books to go by (Roman Military Clothing, etc.) and should be able to put together a simple long-sleeved tunic with some fancy braid on it, by then. I can cheat and wear fleece track pants underneath. Also I have a Deurne cavalry helmet replica which I got for cheap because it was kind of rusty, but that should help make it look more authentic! Rivet some brass cut-outs or washers onto a leather belt, and I'm all set. (I don't have a proper late Roman spatha ... was bidding on one on eBay last week but the seller pulled the listing, unfortunately. Though I do have a Germanic 7th century sword which will probably be okay -- there were lots of Germans in the Roman legions by then, anyway.) I can put on a wool blanket and pin it with a fancy brooch, if it gets cold and/or rainy.

25. Nice.
If you can get pictures, I'd love to see them.

My college has a "no weapons" rule, so I can't get my cut-down halberd from home and go as a member of a peasant revolt. (Mail shirt is nowhere near being done, which rules out any costumes with that.)

No clue what to go as, since the historical option's gone.

I plan on scaring the neighborhood kids and parents with the costume and repeated message I will play

" I suspect even now, orders are being shouted into telephones, and men with guns will soon be on their way. Why?"

"Because while the truncheon may be used in lieu of conversation, words will always retain their power.

Words offer the means to meaning, and for those who will listen, the enunciation of truth

. And the truth is, there is something terribly wrong with this country, isn't there? Cruelty and injustice, intolerance and oppression.

And where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit,

you now have censors and systems of surveillance coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission.

How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.

I know why you did it. I know you were afraid. Who wouldn't be? War, terror, disease. There were a myriad of problems which conspired to corrupt your reason and rob you of your common sense. Fear got the best of you, and in your panic you turned to the now high chancellor, Adam Sutler. He promised you order, he promised you peace, and all he demanded in return was your silent, obedient consent."

I just downloaded my movie using "handbrake" where I can take that out and replay it on my ipod to my stereo

so I may as well wear it for Halloween, too.

It'll be an eclectic day:

*My niece is going as Kikyo

*My nephew is going as Superman

Skip is going to go as God...He's got his "Hi My name is GOD" nametag all ready to go. It's a concept we stole from the 4 season of Buffy's halloween Episode where Oz goes as God and Willow goes as Joan of Arc because she had a close relationship to God.

34. What I go as every year: The Crow.
I've got the long dark hair, the height, the build and all the black clothing necessary to pull it off. I'm not shaving the goatee off, but people who have seen the movie have no trouble guyssing who I am (although one year a few people thought I was going as The Undertaker).

50. My daughter decided on Stephanie from "Lazytown"
I thought it would be hideous, but when she put it on, it was adorable! She's 4 BTW :)

One year I was a nun and my sister dressed up as the school girl. I had the ruler and everything! I got hit on more than here, don't know how to take that  That was about 9 or 10 years ago.

When I was pregnant w/ my daughter, I dressed as a vampire. That one looked crazy!

Have a great Halloween everyone!!! :hi:
