My Aunt and Rush have something in common!
My wife's beloved Aunt T, who has been living with us for the past 2 years. She is diabetic, almost blind, 84 years of age...
And just recieved a prescription for a new, stronger painkiller. The doctor warned us that it was addictive. He also told us how it was prescription only, and he had to print it out on special paper with red ink so it cannot be xeroxed and hard to copy.
The painkiller?
Oxycontin! (doctors spelling, as far as I can read)
The same painkiller that Rush Limbaugh stands accused of abusing.
Luckily, this is the only thing that Aunt T. has in common with the windbag, being a nice little old lady who hasn't a harsh word for anybody.

this is a schedule one drug, that is why they gave it to you that way

Oh and when properly used Pain Meds are addictive (there is always that danger) but not as high as when not properly used

Good luck with your grand ma

2. It's a Schedule II drug
http://www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/schedules/schedules.htm

Schedule I drugs are all illegal

There are five schedules, ranked in decreasing potential for abuse and therapeutic potential. Heroin is Schedule I. Oxycontin and Cocaine are Schedule II. OTC narcotic cough syrups and Lomotil are Schedule V. Two LSD precursors, lysergic acid and lysergic acid amide, are in Schedule III although bringing the amide out to diethylamide moves the product to Schedule I. Phentermine is schedule IV and codeine-based cough syrups with no more than a certain amount of codeine in them are schedule V (and OTC at that). It would be hard to get busted for possession of a Schedule V drug, but you better tell HR you're on it if you're in a Drug-Free Workplace.

When the National Lampoon did a drug-war parody on Lomotil, I thought it was a riot--the gist was that people were abusing Lomotil so they wouldn't have to waste time on the toilet, and one of the signs of Lomotil abuse was tickets to Mexico on your kid's nightstand. Little did I know it really is a drug of concern.

3. Update:
The local pharmacy does not carry it, NONE of them do... they are literally not allowed to have any on stock, they order it when a patient in the area requests it, and then only enough for that patient's prescription. So, the prescription we ordered on Monday won't be filled until NEXT Monday.

Kind of puts ol' Rushbo in perspective, don't it... No wonder he had so many pills, he was afraid of being cut off...

4. That is to prevent Drug Store Cowboy-style smash and grabs
When they had it, it got stolen more than it was prescribed. Junkies would hop over the counter and go grab it off the shelf, and then diddy mao out the door.
Sometimes they would hurt the pharmacist in the process.
