6. Ah, Lanai! The one Hawaiian island I've never been too.

Well, except Ni'ihau, obviously.

Some day I hope to move back, and have a chance to visit Lanai!

7. How long did you live there? How did you afford it? And...

8. Two years; I couldn't afford it and went into debt;

and I left because I was only there as a temporary hire as an apprenctice of sorts, so it was part of my graduate school education - which is why I didn't mind going into debt for it (not much, but my income versus expenditure was a few thousand in the red after two years).

It's just so extremely expensive. But, if I ever get the money...well, one can dream, can't they? Thanks. :hi:

Clearly, more than a million people are doing it.

Don't let my situation discourage you - I went there as a student, and was earning a little more than half of what I would have earned were I doing it as a fully trained person.

Wherever there's a will, there's a way. If you want it, make it happen. Don't sit back and worry about it.

11. Oh, my husband and I are always looking for jobs

We just really haven't found anything yet.

Don't worry, your story, alone, did not influence this decision. I've heard similar financial woes from hundreds of people I've met or known over the years...who've had to move back to the mainland. I stay very torn, most days, about this.

Maybe, someday, we'll be able to move there..and you can, too! So, aloha!
