Worst torture scene in a movie?
Since that's the issue of the week. I think it's gotta be the drilling scene in "Boys From Brazil." I hate going to the dentist anyway, but that was just too much. I had to turn the tv off.

1. The fingernail-yanking in Syriana was excruciating...
you couldn't have pulled a greasy thread out of my ass with a bulldozer during that scene.

3. I think the OP means torture of a character...
not torture of the audience.

5. Do you perhaps mean Marathon Man?
Edited on Fri Sep-29-06 10:17 AM by notmypresident
That was what I was going to say but I think that may be what you meant.

Been a while since I have seen Boys from Brazil but can not recall a dental scene.

Lord Olivier was in both films, good guy in Boys, bad guy in MM.

6. If you're talking about Hoffman and Olivier, that was Marathon Man

Not the Boys from Brazil

"Is it safe?"

Boys had a fantastically brutal fight scene in it though

24. I averted my eyes for that one.
Thank you, dear critics, for warning me in advance that that was coming up! In fact, I am using this thread to make viewing decisions.

Oddly, though, I was able to handle Lonesome Dove, which is pretty brutal. It was, however, made for TV.

12. That scene from "The Green Mile" where the sociopath prison
guard deliberately fails to put water on the Cajun (?) inmate's head before he is electrocuted. It is just so gruesome to watch. We watched the movie once where the whole scene was cut out, which made the movie confusing.

The whole film is one long torture scene. (and wingnuts went apeshit) It's really rather disturbing.

16. Geez, you guys haven't seen anything REALLY bad!
How about Salo...that was the most digusting piece of tripe I've ever seen. I couldn't sit through the whole thing...and I heard the worst parts were at the end! Then there was irreversible, with the infamous Nine Minute Rape and Beating scene. I've NEVER cried at a movie, but I came close in that part.

18. I'm going to have to go with Mark Wahlberg scene in Three Kings.
Edited on Fri Sep-29-06 11:44 AM by Bornaginhooligan
It's not the most gruesome scene, but it's got an air of authenticity that makes it much more disturbing than something made up for the movies.

22. Don't you mean "BEST torture scene"? Worst would be, like,
the scene in Blazing Saddles when Lily von Shtupp beds the sherriff.

Or the whole Castle Anthrax scene in Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
