Poll question: Socks with sandals
This fashion phenomenon is known in my household as Jesus Boots. :P  I'm sorry if that's your style, but there's not much weirder than socks and sandals together. :yoiks: What's your take on this footwear fashion?

1. Socks with sandals looks ridiculous.
However, I also believe sandals should only be worn at the beach or around your home. I don't want to see your disgusting bare feet, especially when I'm eating.

Dirty hippies.

astute observer of fashion (though I do recognize its ridiculous extremes in price and trendiness) but I actually like seeing a cute guy, has to be a bit hippy (can't really pull this off if he's clean-cut/preppy) in nice-fitting, faded Levis, socks and sandals.

Perhaps it's because I grew up along the coast of SoCal and saw a lot of surfers wear this style in winter/to warm up after being in the water. But I love it. It definitely has its place in casual wear. BUT you have to really have the right personal style to be able to carry it off. And the guy MUST have jeans on - looks wayyyyy dorky with shorts. A good worn pair of cords might cut it, too.

edited for grammar!

10. After Living in Vermont for Four Years, I Got Used to It
If someone would make shoes that are as comfortable as Birks, and as easy to take off and on, we'd see less of it.

Besides, if you live in a state like Vermont for any length of time, all sense of fashion goes straight out the window, anyway.

11. A college professor of mine used to wear socks with sandals in the
wintertime---it was his version of winter boots. He was very much a hippie, so it sort of fit his personality and style. :P He even looked like the white fundie version of Jesus. However, it galvanized my dislike of that style.

To each his/her own... :D

21. I can understand that -- my appreciation of the combination
evolved from seeing young, fit kids I went to school with wearing the socks/sandals combination. Entirely different mindset, all those cute surfer guys to have crushes on! Yow!

But I'd probably have grown to hate the style if I'd had to deal with a professor who wore it.

Though I have to say, I don't really like seeing a whole lot of anyone's foot, though I like wearing strappy women's sandals with heels and if other women wear them (and have well-cared for feet) - those don't bother me a bit.

But I don't like seeing anyone's straggly toes - hairy and male or pale and female - hanging out, so to me, socks are often preferable with sandals, even if it isn'the height of style. I don't want to see uneven nails, thick nails, chipped polish, thick, cracked heels, etc. Yuk. Even more yuk in a restaurant.

Though I admit, when I played soccer, we often wore sandals with our socks and shinguards before and after games (instead of cleats).

But normally? Definitely not.

33. In the mid 90's...
...there were a lot of German tourists getting robbed and beaten up at Florida rest stops and when one radio station asked for some advice from their non-savory listeners as to how you'd be able to only target a German tourist versus an American tourist one caller replied, "you see which of the men are wearing socks with sandals".

I don't get it as I lived in Germany for 3 years but that's what the "expert" said.

They have special socks for their thong sandals. It's not a fashion faux pas in their culture at all.

Of course, its pretty funny to see DUers who regularly chastise other DUers for their judgmentalism, being so horrifically judgmental about something as insignificant as this. I mean, its not like there isn't a war on or anything. ;-)

73. Of course you are free to wear whatever you choose, but...
...rest assured some things are now, have always been and will continue to be, dorky. Socks with sandals is one of those things. If you don't care, I don't, but I still think it's dorky.

79. It is very Euro-style...I got used to it after living in England and
traveling in Europe a lot; I rather like it (but one DOES have to consider what type of sox with what type of sandals! You just can't throw ANY old combo together!!!)
