Confession Time: I'm Buying an SUV
Edited on Tue Sep-05-06 12:06 PM by JCMach1
After two years of driving a car in the UAE (Peugeot 307SW), the wear and tear on the vehicle was awful. The roads in Sharjah are not so good, especially in the industrial areas. Also, with friends and family, a car just wasn't working.

So, we will pick up tomorrow our pretty heavy duty Hyundai Terracan. |You can't get hybrids here, gas is cheap and part of the local natural resources. It's the only option if you want to go offroad. PS, the Terracan will do around 26-32mpg.

So, should I feel guilty? :(

Or can we make amends having our family drive around the wadis and pickup trash?

1. Hey, if you need it you need it.
And that gas mileage is almost better than my Saturn. Enjoy!

4. My SO drives a Tahoe
He drives it because he's a carpenter, he needs to carry his tools around, sometimes has to pick up lumber and supplies and we use it to haul a small trailer when we go camping which we do in a place where you really need a truck to get in.

In short, some people need what an SUV offers them. For us, it works out because I drive a small economy car so we use that to run errands or anything else that we don't need the Tahoe for.

:hide:

I have no problem with SUVs when they're actually being used for what they are intended instead of the big fucking-ass hummer taking up two sidewalk parking spaces and blocking a lane in downtown Philly. Because you know you can't survive the streets of Philly without massive off-road capacity

8. The H3 is pretty much a joke as a vehicle anyway
Poor design, poor engine... I sat down in one and it has less back seat legroom than my Peugeot!

6. I drive a Pacifica... which is really only an SUV because they
couldn't get the gas mileage within car range. I guess that makes me a bad person, but at $175 for a 24 month lease, it was the best deal out there. :hi:

13. If you have a real need, then there's no reason to feel guilty...
I have to admit, my little Civic hatchback rarely gets over 32 mpg anymore, so if you have to feel guilty than so do I...
