WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD by Louis Armstrong
I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world

I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world

The colours of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shakin' hands, sayin' "How do you do?"
They're really saying "I love you"

I hear babies cryin', I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll ever know
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world
Yes, I think to myself, what a wonderful world

1. Yes, It's a wonderful song
especially the way Louis sings it. The small cruise line my spouse and I go on frequently has adopted it as the signature departure tune, and it's a lovely experience hearing Louis sing it, and you're standing on the deck as the ship pulls out of the harbor from wherever--Lisbon, Dover, Copenhagen!!

What a great fella he was ole Louis, and a wonderful world it is we have inspite of everything--I think Louis really understood the lyrics.

Thanks for posting this.

I'm listening to the whole CD now.

Louis not only has a great voice and great choice of songs, but and "understanding" of what he speaks.

I do suspect.

I jus' LOVE Louis Armstrong. That's all I can say. :D

4. A truly wonderful world...
...for Louie, especially if the story is true...

According to a professor of mine who played with Louie and knew him personally, Loiue flew into LaGuardia (I think) from overseas where he was performing. Unfortunately for Louie, he was carrying a bag full of pot, among other things, and could not figure out a way past Customs. As he wandered around, he ran into his good friend, Vice President Richard Nixon. Nixon chatted with him, then, seeing he was carrying several bags, asked if he could carry anything. Louie handed him the bag full of pot.

Voila! No search, and a very wonderful world...

Later,
JM

5. there were so many great stories about Louis . . .
he was, for example, in the habit of handing out packets of his favorite laxative, Swiss Kriss, to everyone and anyone . . . Tony Bennett likes to tell a story about the time Louis was dining with royalty and invited everyone to partake of the stuff . . . wonderful character, and an incomparable musician who had a monumental impact on American music . . .

btw . . . he was only "Louie" to the media . . . he referred to himself as Louis, and his friends all called him Louis, or Pops . . . :)

6. I love that song...
I played it at my Dad's funeral three years ago. My father was such an admirer of him and that kind of music.

Every time I hear that song I think of him. I can see his smirk whenever "his" music came on the radio. My dad was from Lafayette, Louisiana...so he knew his jazz and blues.

I miss him.

8. That song
is so beautiful. My sister chose it as the song for she and her husband to have as their own dance at their wedding.
