So, can I still wear white pants this weekend?
I have to know. I'm headed to a football game and my white pants look much cuter.

4. I am a bit of a snob myself.
And at one point in the last few years I read that the "white after labor day" rule was no longer.

I don't know. I generally stay away from it myself, but it's still warm outside and the pants are cute.

2. Are you sure you want to do that?
How clean are the bleacher seats? What if someone spills a beer or a chili dog? On the other hand, at least you can bleach white clothes.

3. Um, not to brag, but I'll be in a suite.
But, you concerns about the bleachers are valid!

5. With the humidity the way it is out where you are (I was born and
partly raised in KS), I say by all means.

And white pants are always cute.

I'm in AZ and we don't put the white pants and shorts away till after Christams, for the most part! I wear white shoes (not sneakers) through September, too.

The nice thing about fashion nowadays, IMHO, is that it's become far more sensible in the past few years.

6. Yes. Including Monday until sundown. After that...Minnesota fashion rule
numero uno goes into effect.

7. I will have to start wearing socks with my loafers after Monday...
because I'm not some kind of barbarian.
Since I'm a fairly hardboiled guy, my friends are always amused by my knowledge of, and adherence to, fashion rules.

I am appalled by the sight of allegedly grown men wearing baseball hats and/or shorts out in public. Just as I am appalled by the sight of a woman with metallic accessories during the daytime.

As I said, my friends are always amused. They can blow me.

16. Well, I can agree with you somewhat.
Grown men in baseball hats? OK sometimes. Not OK other times.

But, you know what? I have tickets to a sold-out major University basketball program and I see all the "blue hair" alumni cruisin' around and I really have no problem with Grandpa wearin' a hat to the game.

But those guys that always wear them? Forget it. Not trying to be mean, but they need to get their hair (or lack thereof) together. Fellas, if you are bald and always, always, always, wear a baseball hat.......we still know it. We still know you are bald. And we are definitely fine with it. Be free. Be......free.

Shorts? You are right, at a certain age it's less appealing. But, damn. It gets hot. It is what it is.

9. Wear whatever color you want
The old "Miss Manners" advice doesn't hold water in the real world anymore. Wear white on the worst snow day of winter, even! Of course, no one will be able to see you because you'd be nearly invisible, but that might be fun, anyhow!

have your period. :-) (Sorry, I couldn't resist.)

12. Good grief Charlie Brown. I guess government is not the only
thing that POPs.
Society too has rules for everything which is either Prohibited, Obligated, or Permitted.
I never heard of such rules. 44 years old and I am more clueless about the rules and slang of society than the average 11 year old.

But I think ignorance is bliss.

13. Maybe so, but as far as I'm concerned that has been a longstanding
Edited on Sat Sep-02-06 10:51 PM by Scout1071
rule in our society. No white pants after Labor Day. Period.

And even though I was raised by a pack of hippies and I've seen my own time "on the road", I still live by certain fashion rules. Particularly because of my job. I'm in sales....and I'll leave it at that. But I will tell you that there isn't a day that goes by that I don't wish I could start and run my own company where I could wear whatever I want. But, even then, could I?

14. You can wear white pants in December.
January, February, etc.

I think the "not wearing white pants after Labor Day" thing is very silly.

15. OK, BUT........
Seriously. I do work with "high end" clients and have to obey some sort of fashion rules. And I'm sorry, but I just don't think we are there.

My heart knows you are right, but my business sense (my wallet), says otherwise.

17. Fortunately...
the white-after-Labor-Day rule has mostly gone by the wayside in recent years.

18. I think so too, but after a lifetime of obeying the rule,
it's hard to let go.

For what it's worth...I didn't wear them. Love 'em. See 'em next year.
