Ba-dump-bump "I'm No Superman" (A Small Rant)
Okay... I know that there's more to life that TV, but now they've gone TOO FAR.

What's the deal with these abbreviated theme songs? It's bad enough that we've gone from full-length back-story theme songs (like the Brady Bunch, Gilligan's Island, The Nanny, etc) to shows with short theme songs (Will and Grace)... but now they have just taken things too the ridiculous extreme.

Dear Mr. TV Executive: Some folks actually ENJOY a good theme song. A well written and unique theme song actually helps build anticipation and excitement for the adventure, mystery, or laughter that awaits the show's fans. A good theme song sets the mood.

Okay... it's bad enough that they are now overlaying banner ads to promote network programming... and it's bad enough that they've practically ELIMINATED the end credits... but would it KILL them to go ahead and have a decent theme song and opening credits? MUST they cheat us out of this small pleasure JUST so that they can insert YET ANOTHER commercial?

NBC's "Scrubs" has a pretty short theme song already. For the second season, NBC made a bold and daring move and gave us a "longer" theme song (a whole 30 seconds) which I liked very much.

Now they've shortened the "short" version even more. Now it's the "micro" version: THREE WHOLE SECONDS!

Thank you for listening.

1. When did they start showing the SHOW before the theme song?
You'll see a few minutes of the show...and THEN the abbreviated theme.

Really, the 60's were the golden age of television theme songs! :-)

And the Janitor is hot. And "The Todd" has a body that just won't quit!

And Dr. Elliot Reid's boyfriend ("Sean" The SeaWorld Dude played by Scott Foley) is just too too too adorable!!!

8. Did you see the episode where "The Todd" was wearing nothing...
But a bikini? HOT.

"Scrubs" is one nice show for eye candy. Hell, John C. McGinley is hot. :-)

9. I'm glad YOU like it...
...but, as far as I'm concerned, either have a real theme song or none at all. And, in my opinion, a 30-second "piece" with lyrics consisting of two whole sentences (even if the second one is repeated twice), is not a real theme song. I liked it better with the micro-mini banjo riff and nothing else.

10. I like the theme songs from the 70s and 80s
Theme songs that were actual songs by real artists but, for some reason, were not sung by the artist that made the song famous ("My Life" by Billy Joel, for instance, as the opener to "Bosom Buddies").

That seemed to be the case whenever a big hit single played in the background on some shows, but instead of getting the real song you got the cover-band version. Why is that?
