Meet my new Girlfriend!

Isn't she a Beauty.
I have no idea how to play her yet but I figure it may be a great way to calm me down and help deal with the stress of everyday Life.
I have no ambitions of playing for anyone but myself.
I just lately have found myself in love with if not deeply moved by live acoustic performances.
I purchased a how to dvd and a cord book.
It's a solid Black Fender Acoustic Guitar.
I got this Brand new Fender w/case how to dvd, book of cords, guitar stand , and a strap.
For get this $250.00
I think i did ok.

I think i am in love :)

As far as having sex w/an in animate object I don't see that happening.

16. They aren't shaped like that for nothing
One of the best ways to learn is to get yourself a songbook of music you know well. The ones with the chords shown to you. Then just practice those songs over and over.

And yes, my guitars have kept me semi-sane for as long as I remember. Writing songs is much easier than yappin with some idiot who doesn't give a crap. LOL

Good luck and have fun!

55. Watch the songbooks...
Edited on Sun Aug-27-06 08:03 AM by gmoney
A lot of the songbooks are transcribed by someone other than the musician, and they sometimes do strange things to accomodate making the chords match the recording. Or they transcribe it into piano chords, then use that to make the guitar chords, which is a bit like translating from English to Spanish and Back again -- you may get unintended results. For instance, on a recording a performer may be tuned a little higher than "normal" (piano tuning) which will change a simple A-D-E progression into some batch of sharps and diminished 7ths and such. So, look for simple solutions first. It's amazing what a huge percentage off songs that are built on a simple I-IV-V chord progression. So if the song is in the key of C and that's the I, then skip II and III (D and E) and F is the IV and G is the V, so it's C-F-G. That structure works for loads of rock songs and almost every country song.

If you have the patience for it, learn some music theory and know what sharps and flats and 5th and 7ths and such, and learn your scales. It's definitely eating ones "musical vegetables" rather than the immediate gratification of banging out "Wild Thing" with great gusto, but it'll pay off in the long run when you can pluck out a passable solo because you know which notes are in the key of the song. And don't forget the words of Chet Atkins, who said "if you hit a wrong note, just slide it into the right one."

Good luck, have fun, and if you can afford it, take lessons. Having someone place expectations on you each week will help you stick with it.

I've played one of those before but ended up buying an Alvarez. I like my Alvarez and bought it despite the fact that at one time I said I had no interest in an acoustic. I fell in love with mine though and just had to have it.

Btw, don't forget to name her. Mine is a boy. Usually I don't give them boy names unless they have a tremolo/whammy bar, but this one just made me think of Kurt Cobain so much that I named it Kurt.

60. Nice curves, dude!
Does that neck go all the way up? :P

Excellent purchase (and, yeah, guit-ars tend to be very expensive, and I'd imagine that's a great price for a Fender). I hope you have a lot of good times with her...I've got a guitar sitting here (a prop for the Elvis thing, basically) but haven't played it yet and have barely played any guitar in 20 years, but I can vouch for the value of a guitar as excellent therapy, of the Zen kind and as a more directly focused way through which to ameliorate the stresses of life (and, sure, back then -- and too often now, too -- that'd be synonymous with relationships with females, or the lack thereof).

Play it, baby!
