Watching an old movie on TV.
Rosalind Russell sends someone out for a pack of cigarettes. She gives him a quarter and says, "You can keep the change." When I started smoking, cigs were 30-35 cents a pack. When I quit, they were $3.00-$3.50 a pack. How much are they now?

1. When I started in
summer of 97, I could get gpc's for under a dollar, 89 cents usually. Today, gpcs are 2.79 at the local store, king cigs are about 3.25 here in sw missouri. Monday will be three weeks smoke free for me, and it sucks...:)

3. I've been fighting it
off and on since july of 2003. I quite for five months in 2003, 5 months in 2004, 6 months in 2005, and now...cumultively for this year, probably 3 1/2 months this year...i was smoke free from jan to mid march...than went off and on again until the first of june, and have been smoking hard since then, until about three weeks ago...its a back and forth thing...

And I do admit, the smoking threads I read last year...whew, I just wanted a cig reading those threads! Its amazing how addictive cigarettes can be, and its worse, when I love to SMOKE!...:)

6. Take $2.50 a day and
put it in a piggy bank, then when you have a tidy sum, go buy yourself a present with your unspent cigarette money!

8. nah, can't save money nowadays :)
all our extra money is for gas...thats the main reason why I quit last year!...:) Cost to much...about 40 bucks a month actually. My wife and I would get Seneca-Cayuga cigs, 8 bucks a carton...my wife is a ...almost 2 pack a day habit, mine was roughly half a pack a day habit...the Seneca's were cheap, so it wasn't that bad...:)

But again, I had to stop...trying to whip my sorry ass into shape too, sorta fell of the wagon in march of this year with that also...my give a damn meter broke big time, but now, I gotta get back on the horse...:)

7. It's like that here, too.
But I'd never buy cigarettes from a machine, in an airport/train station, or in a bar/restaurant. Talk about sticker shock. :wow:

We smoke American Spirit, anyway, using a little machine to inject the tobacco into filtered cigarette tubes.

9. my aunt smokes American Spirit...
they say the tobacco doesn't have many/if any chemicals in it. I know I'm not going to quit forever...but when I do slip up, I would rather slip up with pipe tobacco, or something "more" natural, than marbs, or ciggies...

12. £4.50 for a pack of 20.
This is in the U.K. - that's in the region of $8.

This is sourced from a not totally unbiased source - a group called Forest, who lobby in favour of smokers - and in an article discussing tobacco taxation ( http://www.forestonline.org/output/page20.asp ) but I doubt that it's very inaccurate...I've got no idea myself I've never bought a packet.

14. When I got hooked, they were ten cents a pack at the BX
The cheapest I've seen are $3.75, but they're made from dried camel dung.
