Katie Couric thinks people want to go a little deeper
or so her commerical says.

I don't think we can get much shallower, can we?

4. Millions of dollars for sitting on her ass and reading a prompter
What's her motivation to "go a little deeper"?

5. Pretty questionable talk from someone who has the depth of a birdbath...

Katie Couric is to depth as George W. Bush is to intelligence. :eyes:

6. Katie....
Has nice legs and that's about it.
Ever since the "Navy Seals Rock" outburst I have decided she's nothing but a hand holding a microphone.

12. It's bad enough with Scheiffer
tonight the CBS news had coverage on Paramount dumping Tom Cruise and a story about how the horse that won the Kentucky Derby is doing. Both stories went on way too long and I thought their coverage of the housing market went on longer than it needed to. The declining housing market and how it effects other areas of the economy is certainly valid but the interview with the couple in California who had finally bought a house was just tooo cute.

If this is what it's like with someone who used to be a real newsman as the anchor how much worse will it get when Katie takes over? I've always leaned toward CBS news, but I won't be watching as of Sept 5.

15. i disagree, maybe tonight cbs news wasn't stellar but when Lara Logan was
Iraq reporting for them it was some of the most truthful non spin war coverage i'd seen on any broadcast news and Bob asked a lot of good questions and cleared up some major bullshit coming from Bushco and the pentagon.

10. She said people told her they want the news to be an hour
Since she left the today show, she's been doing a "listening tour" to see what's on people's minds, re: the news.

And she said almost everyone she encountered, told her they want the news to be an hour as opposed to a half hour.

19. Why did this thread of mine get moved?
Its an exact quote from a news anchor and has to do with the quality of news delivered by the MSM.
Maybe the mods in GD should read before they act.

21. I gave up on TV news a loooooooooong time ago.
I got disgusted with our national media around the time of the whole OJ Simpson/Princess Diana nonsense, when it became clear our national media was turning into information-free tabloids. I got into a big argument with a journalist friend about the whole deal and he kept insisting that they were just "giving the people what they wanted," so I voted with my dollars and refused to watch anymore TV or read anymore newspapers.

When September 11 hit, I started watching the news again, and I was shocked at how much things had deteriorated since I last consumed American news. Not only was the coverage far shallower and tabloid-like, but the media had become enormously more conservative.

Then the PIPA report came out and basically proved what I had already figured out on my own. I am once again boycotting the American media and instead read the occasional foreign newspaper online (so nice of them to make that stuff available to non-subscribers).

If you didn't read the PIPA report, know this: the more news you get from the TV, the less informed you are about the world. If you get most of your news from cable news channels, you will be even more misinformed. For maximum ignorance, watch FOX News. If you really must consume American media, stick to print media.
