2. Thinking of others even when you are in pain:
This photo always brings tears to my eyes when I see it. The black Marine is wounded and in pain, but he reaches out to help
his buddy who is even worse off.

It's patriotism in microcosm; loving your countrymen and brothers-in-arms.

8. I agree with Charlie Chaplain on patriotism...
...in that patriotism is an utterly useless concept unless your nation is being invaded. In that case, the only part of patriotism that matters is whether or not you would defend your neighbors, and the answer for the vast majority of people is "yes" regardless of political proclivities.
