Dave Matthews - his heart is in the right place but I hate his music.

Anyone have someone, an actor, musician, etc... that you agree with politically but hate their work? Just wondering

4. I like Dave Mattews and the Dixie Chicks
I'm not the biggest Moby fan but I like his politics. Madonna confuses me, but I'm glad that she can and does criticize Bu$h. I just wish that she would quite hanging out with Britney. It is so hard to call her a feminist hero, while continuing to associate with Spears.

5. Punk
A lot of punk bands have great politics, but I just don't like the music.

I feel a similar way about the Dixie Chicks, too.

16. I'll say this for Affleck
he's not a good actor. But, I caught him on The Daily Show the other night and he was genuinely funny and engaging. If only he could translate that charm onto the screen.

9. Janeane Garofalo
never enjoyed her schtick (because she doesn't have one) Very unfunny, but she is an eloquent spokesman for progressive politics. I wish that she would drop out of "entertainment" and enter politics

10. RATM
I don't like their music. But I love Zack de La Rocha and what he's done to help the indigenous peasant struggle in southern Mexico.

Zack de La Rocha
Interview by Jesus Ramirez Cuevas

But one subject did get Zack talking recently: the Zapatista struggle in Chiapas. And why not? He already expends enormous amounts of energy raising awareness about the struggle through his music.

15. John Denver.

Never liked his music but felt badly for him in the '80s, when RCA dropped him after he wrote and recorded a song that criticized the nuclear arms race. (RCA is owned by GE, one of the world's biggest manufacturers of weapons.)

18. Rage Against the Machine
Actually, I think they are occasionally brilliant, but mostly just noisy and shrill. I have to be in the right mood to listen to them. I always feel like 80% of the kids who listen to them don't understand what they're talking about - they just think it sounds "cool". At least they were trying to say SOMETHING, unlike Marilyn Manson, which is just meaningless commercialized poser crap.
