I've finally finished making my Bourbon Balls
Dang it's boring. But they are so yummy, it's worth the rolly-rolly, dredge-dredge.

Now I can finish grading finals. How's that for prioritizing? Bourbon balls, then grading. Poor kids.

1. Mmmmmm. Bourbon balls.
Lots of double entendres I could make here, but will be polite. I have an old family recipe for them, but no bourbon in the house.

8. Mmmmmm, is right!
I actually started with my mom's old bourbon ball recipe but modified it. She used that candied fruit crap which is gross. I use chocolate chips, pecans, and orange peel. And half bourbon/half triple sec.

Damn, they are yummy.

15. Bourbon Ball Recipe
Okay, since you asked:

Miss Billie's Bourbon Balls

2 c. crushed vanilla wafers
1 t. orange zest (maybe a little more)
1/2 c. chopped chocolate (I use semi-sweet mini-chips.)
1/2 c. chopped pecans
1/3 c. booze (half bourbon, half orange brandy or triple sec)
3 T. light corn syrup
2 T. cocoa powder
1 c. powdered sugar

more powdered sugar for dredging.

mix 'em up, roll 'em, eat 'em. They're better after aging a couple days in zip-loc bags.

Works out to about a teaspoon per bourbon ball... it sneaks up on you!

I got a package of Christmas goodies tonight too. How I've managed to stop myself from eating the whole box is beyond me.

Actually, I thought you might ask if I laced my bourbon balls with NyQuil.

Color: Green or Cherry Red, definitely Christmas colors!

18. I always wondered...
why are some barware glasses called "high balls?" I once moonlighted at Crate & Barrell and asked someone else who worked there, but she just laughed at me. Did I miss an important lesson in my youth?

19. A "Highball" is an old-fashioned drink, like
Edited on Fri Dec-19-03 12:18 AM by DemBones DemBones
a "Tom Collins" and, for that matter, an actual "Old Fashioned."

Don't ask me how to make one, though.

(I'm betting your co-worker didn't KNOW and was just conning you.)

On Edit:

Highballs and Old Fashioneds are made in short, wide glasses, while "Tom Collinses" are made in tall glasses. At least that's how I remember it from observing adults in my childhood. They used to play those weird party games, like each person holds a toothpick in their mouth and uses it to pass a lifesaver mint from one person to another until it's been passed to everyone at the party. Who else remembers those? There was another involving a balloon that you had to pass using your body, no hands allowed. Pretty risque, huh? (Now you know why they had so many kids in the Fifties!)
