Do you like sushi?

I like it. I eat it about twice a week.

My problem is none of my friends like sushi, and they won't even go with me to try it. Most of the time I just go by myself.

12. One place by me even has a really good cooked roll.

Salmon, whitefish & crab wrapped up in rice & nori, dipped in a wasabi sauce and then fried. It's so yummy and it's cooked, although I generally go for the raw sushi.

that also serves Teriyaki. They'll probably go if you assure them that cooked food is also an option.

Also, some sushi places have cooked "sushi"...looks like sushi, but it's warm. ;)

14. Sushi doesn't have to be raw at all

To clarify, sushi, in fact, refers to the vinegared rice with topping. So Unagi or omelet or shrimp or whatever that is cooked is still very legitimately sushi.

19. I adore sushi, mainly eat Sashimi right now (avoiding white rice)

A suggestiong to get people interested in Sushi is to pick out a few rolls that don't have raw fish in them. There are several great rolls out there like that including vegetarian roll, California Roll and a personal favorite of mine - SHrimp Tempura Roll (has cooked shrimp in it). Bring it back and offer it around, show them that the shrimp is cooked. People might be surpised at how good it is.

I have Sashimi about once a week (now that freaks people out - that's raw fish) and my local place has a great lunch special with 8 pieces of Sashimi (varies each week but usually a few to choose from), soup and rice for $7.95

I got lucky; my friends dragged me to a sushi bar when I was young.

You might get your friends to a Japanese restaurant to eat teriyaki or tempura, and then get them to sample some sushi. I've encounterd very few people who then didn't want to go back for more.

when we were kids (early 70s) my mom had this hippie friend who was a waitress and she would talk to us about astrology and stuff.

she got my mom a fondue set for xmas.

but that's what i first learned what patchouli was. and baba ghanoush, lentils, vegetarian spaghetti, and other types of groovy stuff.

she was one of my favorite adults at the time.

never had it, and the raw aspect of it, makes me very hesitant to try...but I will try it someday...I had the same thought with calamari, but calamri was cooked, but the thought of eating squid put me off, but when I tried that, I thought I found another slice of heaven...:)

I"m 49.
My parents introduced me to sushi when I was around 4 years old. There were a couple of types of sushi I sort of liked.
We have an old family friend who was a fantastic sushi chef.
growing up in the SF bay area we've had lots of japanese and sushi restaraunts which I have eaten at through out
all my life. in the 80's, when sushi started becoming insanely popular I endured most of my friends litterally force feeding me sushi, telling me I'll "love it if you just try it." well I've tried lots of sushi over the years in lots of great and not so great restaraunts. I just don't like the stuff. there are still about 3 types that I've eaten that I sort of liked.

I dunno, I've tried to like it. I like sashimi and most ceviche, so it's not the raw fish aspect. I like the way lots of sushi restaraunts are set up, floating boats, cool. guy with a very very sharp kife making beautifull looking food, excellent.
I think it has something to do with both the flavor and texture. Over the years I have tried to politely taste various sushi thrust in my generarl direction.

one thing I decided when I turned 40 was that I no longer had to go along with any one who tries to force me to eat the stuff. I"m also amazed at how personally some of my friends have been insulted by my not liking sushi, hey, is your last name sushi? get over it. It's not meant as a personal insult that I dont' like sushi, I just don't like sushi.

Too many people just assume that Sushi is raw fish. It's not - there are plenty of sushi's out there that have cooked fish in it or no fish at all (plenty of vegetarian sushi's)
