19. What he said - besides you are just doing a mechanical matrix multiply
Edited on Thu Dec-18-03 09:56 PM by papau
matrix multiply:

To find the value in row 1, column 1 of the answer, consider row 1 of the first matrix and column 1 of the second matrix. Multiply the first entry in the row by the first entry in the column, the second entry in the row by the second entry in the column, etc. Then add together the results of these multiplications. This gives the number in row 1, column 1 of the answer.

To find the value in row 2, column 1 of the answer, consider row 2 of the first matrix and column 1 of the second matrix. Multiply the first entry in the row by the first entry in the column, the second entry in the row by the second entry in the column, etc. Then add together the results of these multiplications. This gives the number in row 2, column 1 of the answer.

Continue in this way to find all of the elements in the answer.

Reflection:

A way of transforming a shape in the same way that a mirror does.
The reflection of a shape in a mirror line is an identical shape which has been flipped over.

When an object is placed a certain distance in front of a mirror, its image in the mirror appears the same distance away from edge of the mirror. Likewise, all the points on a shape and all the points on its image are same distance away from the 'mirror line'.

The matrix which performs a reflection in the line y= x tan angle A is:

cos 2A Sin 2A

Sin 2A -Cos 2A

so multiply - now - darn it.

Now the above is the definition of reflection about that line - if you want to know why it is the definition, you need someone with teaching skills!

good luck

:-)

2. Hmmm, start on some homework.
I'm a math major, what are you working on?

4. reflection
probably sounds like addition to you. Arrr. Normally I would just whine because its what I do. But I really don't understand this time.

16. You mean reflection of a line about an axis?
Edited on Thu Dec-18-03 09:48 PM by kixot
Conic sections or into graph theory?

Oh, ok, I read you're post below. Hmm, it may help to think of it as an algorithm like this:

if they say reflect (a,b) about the y-axis it's R{a,b} = (-a,b)
if they say reflect (a,b) about the x-axis it's R(a,b) = (a,-b)
if they say reflect (a,b) about the origin it's R(a,b) = (-a,-b)

Is that what you mean? If it's confusing to you just visualize it until it makes sense, just keep visualizing it.

Take my advice. If that test or quiz is gonna bother you, become "sick", well maybe the cutie behind you has the answers, ask her :D. Well here's my actual advice, try your best.

6. What breed of math is it? If you can't call a friend for help,

maybe you can get help here, or somewhere online.

8. Do you have a textbook?
Use it. Or throw it away. You don't need extensive math skills to operate a cash register at Wal Mart. Now, get off the internet and do your homework.

While the drudge of homework may cause me quite a bit of physical pain, I'm sure it's somewhat less than that of Holocaust survivors, POWS, and torture victims.

There. Happy? :)

Edit: you're a teacher, aren't you?

20. It is a matrix multiply - life is easier if you just "do" and expect to
understand why later!
