... I never thought about having kids. Why do we have to grow up and do that?

8. A defense contractor

When I was kid, I set for myself the modest goal of becoming a multimillionaire. Specifically $80 million.

Since I read Newsweek magazine, I knew defense contractors had the best business. Whenever they needed new orders, all they had to do was manufacture up a scare and there would be all kinds of new orders to build bombs. I saw this as the perfect business: no deadbeats or no-pays, the ability to create business whenever it was needed and the ability to charge whatever I wanted because Joe Taxpayer wasn't getting personal over the bill.

This is no joke. This really was my childhood goal. But now I'm an English teacher and an organic gardener.
