Favorite scene in the Star Wars saga...
Mine is from ESB, where Vader discloses his identity to his wounded son. What was once a fairy tale now ascends to the realm of opera. It is not simply the twist that astounds me (although it does pack quite a punch), but the shattering of boundaries that have been constructed for both characters. Delivering his speech with the intensity of Milton's Satan, Vader acknowledges the fact that his master is evil and must be overthrown, but is far too corrupt to abandon his concept of rule through force. Vader is spectacularly unredeemed, and the sheer horror of the moment is driven home when we realize that Luke would opt for death, rather than embrace a life of Sin.

Oddly enough, ROTJ jettisoned this political and spiritual tete a tete between Luke, Vader and Palpatine, opting for a far less compelling subtext concerning Vader's redemption. ESB makes it quite clear that Vader is a slave to the Dark Side, not to Palpatine. Oh well, I guess they are just movies!

Are there any scenes that give you goosebumps, or make you laugh?

1. Derek, you need a girlfriend
A nice one. Forget Princess Leia and Chewbacca.

Just teasing. ;)

2. ROTJ
I've never been one of those who puts down ROTJ - I honestly thought it was as good as the other two. The climactic battle at the end was unequaled in any of the other 2 movies.

Anyway, as far as chills, the fight with Vader with the emperor taunting Luke was so cool in that you saw Luke showing how he could be pulled in the dark direction (you previously had never seen any sign of it) - And really what left my jaw open was when Luke's hate and anger finally overwhelms Vader and you see that Vader is not invincible (The wheezing of his 'breather' was so shocking to me)

As far as overall 'Magic' no movie had it more than the original starwars - Obiwan brought that movie something the others never regained. You never really felt as choked up as when Ben sacrificed himself. None of the other movies had such emotional moments.

6. That's the one
When Luke is so on the Dark Side.

The only things that ticked me off about ROTJ was the "deathbed conversion" of Vader (c'mon, the man tortured his daughter, killed millions, and betrayed/wiped out the Jedi order, but he's fat-n-happy in Jedi heaven because he changed his mind at the last minute?) and the damned Ewoks. Ewoks were supposed to be Wookies, but Lucas was already starting his obsession with pleasing 4 year olds instead of the fans who got into the series because of the depth of ESB.

Meesa peepul doesn't like anymore. And Ep 2 is one of the worst films I've ever seen.

7. A bunch, but I'll try one from each of the first 3 movies

IV - Solo heroically chasing a pack of Storm Troopers down a hallway, finding them waiting for him with twice their previous number, then Solo running like a scalded dog back up that same hallway, firing aimlessly over his shoulder.

V - The entire ice world battle scene, with the Rebels fighting an obvious retreating action against a methodical, efficient Imperial force.

VI - Vader vs Luke duel, when Vader taunts Luke with the idea that even if Luke resists Vader, Vader will just find and corrupt Lukes sister instead. Luke draws power from the Dark side to defeat Vader, while at the same time we know he is sacrificing himself to that same power. The way the music swells as Luke starts driving Vader back gets me every time.

Ok, I'll make picks from I and II too.

I - The whole Fight scene with Darth Maul was about the only thing that I didn't mentally criticize while watching it.

II - I'm drawing a blank. I honestly can't think of anything that really impressed me. And I cringe at the sledge hammer subtlety of Anakin and Amidala's growing "romance." 4th graders could have written it better.

And I'll guess at this:

III - The tragic fall of Anakin, his betrayal of all his friends, about 1/2 a movie's worth of shadowing just about exactly what happened with Luke in Episode VI, so it becomes BLATANTLY obvious through the actions of the second 1/2 that Luke is ALREADY lost to the Dark Side. And finally, a dismally dark and UN-happy ending that will be absolutely HATED by average American movie goers, but which will be perversely hated AND loved by Star Wars fans.

I want an Episode III that will shock its viewers. That will make little kids cry. That will tell people that the universe is NOT saved from evil at the end of Episode VI. Infact, due to Lukes fall to the Dark side, that galaxy far, far away is in graver danger than ever before.

9. Hmm...
I love the scene where Han and Leia kiss for the first time. That whole "there haven't been enough scoundrels in your life" thing. Sigh...I had (and still have) such a crush on Han Solo. :-)

I also love it when Vader is a bad ass. Choking people over the comm system. Lifting that poor guy 2 feet off the floor at the beginning of Star Wars. Tossing Palpy down the shaft. Vader kicks ass. He's way Darthier than Darth Maul or Darth Tyrranus on the Darthiest day of their lives.

Oh, and I love any scene in Ep 1 where Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon snark at each other.

10. My favorite scenes are the battle ones...
But there are some great lines...

I:

II:

IV:
Leia: You came here in THAT? You're braver than I thought.

Leia: Aren't you a little short for a stormtrooper?

Vader: I find your lack of faith...disturbing.

Han: Everythings fine here, situation normal.

Greedo: Oota goota, Solo?

V:
Leia: I'd rather kiss a wookie.
Han: I can arrange that!

Vader: Apology accepted, Captain Needa.

Yoda: Away put your weapon, I mean you no harm.

Yoda: No, do not try. Do. Or do not. There is no 'try'.

VI:
Luke: This is your last chance, Jabba!

11. When R2D2 is able to escape and deliver Princess Leia's
desperate message. ``Obi Wan Kenobe, you're our only hope!'' Still gives me chills. I saw the original ``Star Wars'' six times at the movies, when it first came out. I had practically memorized the dialog. The last time I saw it, the film broke and they left out a huge chunk of it. I was able to tell those I was with what they missed.:D

R2D2 was my favorite character! I'm glad he's still around.:loveya:
