Sunday dinner thread
I am expecting XemaSab any moment now. We will be serving bun (Vietnamese noodle salad): rice vermicelli tossed with stir-fried baked tofu, carrots, shallots and string beans; served with garnishes of mung, daikon and sunflower sprouts, diced cucumber, and peanuts, and topped with a dressing of lime juice, fish sauce, sugar, jalapeno, garlic, and chili paste.

Can't wait to dig in!

1. Sunday Dinner?
Edited on Sun Aug-06-06 08:27 PM by querelle
What you are serving sounds yummy, but whatever happened to Sunday night roast beef? Or roast chicken? Or roast anything? Okay, I am a traditionalist. I like a roasted dead animal for Sunday dinner. Is that so wrong?

5. Wow
Sounds good. I love a good roast beef. I had a roast pork tonight with mashed potatoes, baby carrots, fresh corn, and a gravy to die for. HEAVEN!

10. Who said it was wrong?
I put roasted dead soybeans in my salad. Does that count?

3. I had pizza. I need to go see if the beer is cold yet.
For dessert, I have caffine free cola or root beer and some vanilla soy ice cream for floats.

Not exactly gourmet, but I had a long day yesterday and tomorrow will be a mess so I'm trying to recouperate today.

6. a lame attempt at pad thai
I made what you would come up with if you've had pad thai and wanted to make it yourself, but you didn't have a recipe. It certainly wasn't pad thai, but it was pretty good.

Stir-fried rice noodles in a spicy Asian sauce (out of a bottle) with crushed peanuts and cilantro on top.

Eh, it turned out okay.

8. OMG, you pre-empted me!
I was just firing up the ol' laptop courtesy of my friends at linksys and lo and behold!

A XemaSab-Ellen dinner thread!

I think you should just post the recipe here to share the goodness with our 90,000 closest friends! 'Cause that's what friends are for: posting yummy and healthy recipes!

So just to recap: we had healthy and yummy food. And wine. And coffee. And cheesecake. :D

9. Very healthy cheesecake.
Psychologically beneficial. :-)

Here ya go:

I followed the sauce recipe fairly closely, but totally improvised the rest. Baked savory tofu works really well in this recipe.

It talks about having a rich dessert to back up a light meal.

I am following the advice of the elders of the tribe. :D

12. I didn't have dinner at home
Now I'm at work and I'm just eating here and there as I get hungry. I had a veggie burger on multi-grain bread a while ago. I have some Pad-Thai with tofu that I might make up later and some fruit for "dessert"/treat. There's also salad here if I'm in the mood. It's a 12 hour shift so I'll likely eat a few times.

Thanks for the recipe above. I'm going to try it.

29. Whataburger is a hamburger from Whataburger
Whataburger is a Texas fast food chain. We have lots of them here in Oklahoma. I think they are only in the south.

The burgers & the place are both called Whataburger.

because they really aren't fast at all.

They are made to order, no heat lamp patties like McDonald's & Burger King.
