Poll question: How Many Times Per Day Does Your Home Phone Ring?
Or... how many calls do you RECEIVE on your primary (non-work) telephone line? Is it ringing-off-the-hook and do you wish it would stop? Or does it ring so infrequently that you sometimes wonder if your phone still works?

<<--- or --->>

Discussion: Will you even bother answering the phone if your caller ID says "unknown" or if you don't recognize the name/number?

Caller ID is my friend... I'll always look to see who it is first, and I'll rarely answer it if I don't recognize the number it displays. (Which REALLY annoys my mother because she likes to use those discount long distance calling-cards. When she does that, her call is routed through a 3rd party long-distance service and my caller ID displays some random unknown phone number, but NOT HER actual home phone number. Weird.)

Edit:

Yeah, I'll pick it up if the caller ID is unknown. Unless I'm in the middle of a really good conversation, or business, then if I don't know who it is I'll let the service get it.

3. My land line rings 0-2 times--per week
And those are usually hang ups by (I'm assuming) telemarketers. I never answer the line so whoever calls gets the answering machine. If it's a legitimate caller they'll leave a message and I'll call back. The important people have my cell number anyway.

4. Land line - never
I'm always on the internet either reading or listening to music, and have the great joy of being on dial up. If I lose my connection, there's a 50% chance that I will get a call from some computer somewhere within 4 seconds that wants to know if I need to buy something.

That is why the gods created cell phones. I never get an out of the way call on that.

I'm probably one of the last people on this earth who actually uses and enjoys the use of dial up.

5. The only person who calls me is my special friend.
And that's probably twice a day since he is the only person who calls me.

6. 6-10 times per day
I never answer if the caller ID shows unknown or if I don't recognize the name/number. I let the answering machine get those. They are usually telemarketers anyway.

8. I can't vote until you add "Way too damn much."
Only then can I vote in this poll. It rings off that hook. And no, I do not want to give money to the NC sheriff's association. Sorry, I don't know how I got on that list of phone numbers, but please take me off the list. Although, Planned Parenthood did call me once out of the blue. I liked talking to that lady about how fucked we are under Bush. She also said she'd vote for Al Gore again in a heartbeat. I didn't mind that phone call in the least. And if the artist lady had called, it would have been nice, but that apparently ain't happening now. Fuck it. Other than the Planned Parenthood lady, they can all fuck off.

I guess you can tell the phone rings way too much here at my humble abode.

12. Seems like it's constant.
I have telemarketers and bill collectors from the previous resident calling all the time.

I never answer the phone unless I recognize the number. That's what my answering machine is for. :D
