Any Annie Lennox fans in here?
I really like that song "Cold" she sings, but I'm not familiar with anything else she sings besides what she did with the Eurythmics.

What others songs are along the lines of "Cold"?

1. That is my favorite song by her.
"Why" was on the same CD "Diva", it was the most popular song on it, and is along those lines, and also "Primitive" on that CD.

"Peace is Just a Word" on the Eurythmics "Peace" cd is as well.

On "Bare", her most recent CD, which was out about 3 years ago, "Pavement Cracks", "Honestly", "Wonderful", and "Lonliness" are good tracks.

She has some pipes, to be sure.

2. She did an excellent cover of "Whiter Shade of Pale"
I can't imagine anyone else doing that classic justice.

3. Love Annie Lennox!
:) Early Eurythmics songs are really good. "Love is a Stranger" is one of my favorites. "Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of These)" was probably one of their most popular songs, and it's good, but not my favorite.

5. Wow.
That is really cool. Did she ever tell you what she was like? I thought the Eurythmics were okay. I actually like her solo stuff better.

6. She's one of my favorite singers
I wish I could recommend songs for you, but I love them all.

I think my ultimate favorite, though, is "Why".

7. Annie! Every song she sings is amazing. Medusa is a great CD.
She also did some recent music for Into the West, TV movie.

8. She won an Oscar for this one.
Theme song from Lord of the Rings, Return of the King.

INTO THE WEST
Music & Lyrics by Annie Lennox, Howard Shore & Fran Walsh

Lay down
Your sweet and weary head
Night is falling
You have come to journey's end
Sleep now
And dream of the ones who came before
They are calling
From across a distant shore

Why do you weep?
What are these tears upon your face?
Soon you will see
All of your fears will pass away
Safe in my arms
You're only sleeping

What can you see
On the horizon?
Why do the white gulls call?
Across the sea
A pale moon rises
The ships have come to carry you home

And all will turn
To silver glass
A light on the water
All Souls pass

Hope fades
Into the world of night
Through shadows falling
Out of memory and time
Don't say
We have come now to the end
White shores are calling
You and I will meet again
And you'll be here in my arms
Just sleeping

Chorus

And all will turn
To silver glass
A light on the water
Grey ships pass
Into the West

Love is a Stranger. She's in female drag, delicious:

(It kind of skips at the end)

That whole album that song (Cold) is on, I can't remember the name of it, is really good. I love the song "Why" and "Primitive", they are both as good as "Cold". I also like the song "No more I love you's"

Here is "Why":

12. "Missionary Man"...
cracks me up.

Lennox is my favorite female singer. I recommend the whole CD "Medusa". On it she sings great songs written by others, and shows off her fabulous voice.

13. Her covers album is great
It's called Medusa. A stunning version of "Take Me to the River", Annie covering the Talking Heads covering Al Green. A nice fusion of the soulfulness and funky rhythms of the two versions. And it's nice to know that men aren't the only ones who feel the sentiments expressed in the Clash's "Train In Vain."

14. Red Hot & Blue
Was an AIDS benefit album made in 1990. It featured various artists singing the songs of Cole Porter. Annie Lennox did a version of "Everytime We Say Goodbye" that I find very haunting and beautiful. It was apparently dedicated to her brother who died of AIDS complications in the mid 80's. My favorite song by her.

15. That's a tough call. There's really nothing else quite like it.

I used to be a huge Annie fan; Medusa and Diva both have great tracks. I don't listen to her much these days myself. I used to have a greater capacity to handle the emotional and psychological intensity of her music but not now... (It's a long story.) :)

Regarding Medusa: I think "Downtown Lights" or "No More 'I Love You's'" has the most similar vibe to "Cold" - others would disagree. Diva has great material, too ("Why", "Money Can't Buy It", "Stay By Me", and "Legend in My Living Room").

Of the Eurythmics songs, I'd suggest a couple from Savage: "I Got A Lover (Back in Japan)" and "You Have Placed a Chill in My Heart".

Great lines from "I Got a Lover...":

I was bitter when I met you,
I was eloquent with rage
Like honey from a poisoned cup,
I flowed from stage to stage...

Skip "Love Song for a Vampire". It's way too overwrought to enjoy.

I'm a big fan - the CD that "Cold" is on is very good, if you want to pick it up. I think it's called "Diva."
