I have a hornet's nest on my house! (dial-up warning)
I just noticed it today when I was cutting the grass. I hadn't been around to that side of the house for a couple of weeks. I had no idea they had decided to move in.

I am going to leave them alone. They kill flies and other pests, feed the birds and will probably leave me alone.
(I will fix that gutter when the hornets die off this winter)

1. Thanks for leaving them alone!
Just make sure you don't have some light there at night, this is upsetting. Otherwise, they will leave you alone, too, and might protect you from wasps. :hi:

2. Wow! What an incredible structure.
Amazing, actually.

Hopefully, yes, they'll leave you alone.

3. Word of caution: Make sure they are not working they way into
the house. No kidding. Years ago, we had a wasps nest on the outer wall of our bedroom. Did not notice that they had basically been working their way through the outer wall to the inside of the room. One night, MrSG went to bed, and got up about 10 minutes later, showing me a big red bump on his leg. He thought he had been bitten by a spider or some other bug. We did the baking soda thing, and then he went back to bed. 5 minutes after that, he came tearing downstears, slamming the door to the upper floor, and said the bedroom was full of wasps. And it was. Those suckers had made their way through the wall and gotten into the bedroom. We had to sleep in the guest room for several days. I got a couple of bug bombs made especially for wasps, cautiously entered the bedroom and set them off. Once they were all dead and vacuumed up, I patched the hole in the wall. We had not noticed it, because it was slightly hidden behind the curtain rod. One of the weirdest things I'd ever seen happen.
