Hiked 7 miles round trip to Carter Notch, NH today.
Straight up, then strainght down. Not one harsh word, no arguments on the trail, no whining, didn't fall, didn't cry. Left knee is in agony, but I'll get over it. Pretty good for someone who flatlanded it for 3 years in Florida.

AMC Hut is at the bottom of photo.

1. Which trail?
I've hiked up on Wildcat Ridge once and on a different trip via 19-mile to Carter Dome. Looks like you had great weather.

3. 19 Mile Brook Trail to Carter Notch
Wildcat Ridge is one of the toughest hikes EVER. Don't know if I could manage that one these days.

Yeah, weather was perfect. I've been working at AMC for the past few weeks driving the hiker shuttle. So happy I could get out and actually do some hiking myself. Tomorrow, Glen Boulder...yikes.

6. I know, but I didn't want to assume that you went up 19 Mile
if you had gone up Wildcat Ridge. Wildcat is not one I'd repeat because 19 mile is pleasant and affords different side trips. I miss hiking in the Whites. I used to hike there every year.

I've never climbed Glen Boulder so I hauled out the book. It sounds rather 'sporty.' Have a great hike.

9. Thanks. Glen Boulder is the quickest route to above tree line
Hope my knees hold out.

Never been to the Whites, would like to some day. Maybe when I do the AT.

4. I've been interviewing lots of thru hikers for the book I'm writing.
Finding out some very interesting info about secret camps, etc. Man, I love this area.

10. Hell no. Book on why people hike.
What sends them by the thousands up here to the White's to hike in downpours, deal with black flies, stay dirty for a week and haul 50lb packs around.

7. I did that one in Boy Scouts some 35+ years ago.
The White Mountains are beautiful.
Did you drive the Kangamaugus Hwy?

11. No, too commercial. I live in Gorham, north of Pinkham Notch.
