Couple: Peephole provided view into their room

August 4, 2006

BY STEVE SCHMADEKE Daily Southtown

When Ryan Kraus and Jennifer Conrad checked into the Frankfort Sybaris hotel last summer, they found a swimming pool, hot tub, floor-to-ceiling mirrors and -- later that night -- a "1-inch peephole" with a view of it all.

The LaPorte, Ind., couple have filed a lawsuit in Will County alleging their privacy was violated and they suffered emotional distress as a result of the hotel's "extreme and outrageous conduct."

During the night, the pair said they saw light flickering from the peephole three times -- an indication, the lawsuit says, that someone was watching them. The couple covered the hole and didn't think much about it until the following day, according to a Frankfort police report.

Sybaris: Charge 'outrageous'

In a statement Wednesday, Sybaris "categorically denies" that the couple was spied on and said the hole was left over from a room remodeling project. snip

The hole, 6 inches above the floor, had been used to carry drainage tubing from a dehumidifier through the wall, Sybaris said. When the room was remodeled to allow that water to drain through the floor, the tubing was removed, the company said.

1. 1 inch hole, six inches up? Not much to see...
Some ankles, maybe. The flicker they probably saw was someone else walking around next door.

And if they were having emotional distress, why weren't they having it when the event was happening?

3. From the article...
>>>A hole there afforded a view of the "pool, hot tub, hand rail leading to the hot tub and mirror," according to the lawsuit.<<<

2. Or somebody walking between the hole and the ambient light source...
:dunce:

And as was said... 6 inches from the floor; there's not much going on unless one gets a big woody over an ankle.
