Do you use skype or other VOIP?

Damn good calling quality for free. I have lots of international friends and you can't beat free. Also, I've had great calling quality calling internationally for 2 cents a minute.

I've thought about going with vonage but I'm afraid of losing my 911 if there is a power outage or my cable goes out.

But I know several people who do, including my brother and his fiancee, who used it almost every day while she was abroad, and swear by it (Skype).

2. We use Sunrocket for our home phone service.

VOIP PLUS we can use real telephones.

We have the DSL, the Airport and VOIP gizmo on a UPS, and it lasted for 15 hours during our last power outage, which was the amount of time the power was out. Cell phones will take the rest of the time. We haven't fully tested the limits of the UPS, but the three devices use about 36 watts per hour each, and the battery on the UPS is rated for 5000 watts.
