What is the most extravagant purchase you have ever made?
Mine is bittersweet. After returning from Vietnam and my subsequent discharge from the army in 1971, I was so fucking happy to be alive that I bought a 1958 Corvette Stingray convertible. (And promptly totalled it on the Bay Bridge between Treasure Island and Oakland after owning it for exactly three weeks.) Damn, that was a sweet ride!

You got to live my dream. That's a sweet, sweet car. How did you total it? Did you get hurt???

4. The ususal.
Driving too fast, wet pavement, and (since the statute of limitations has expired) a taste of the herb. I got cut off, overcompensated, and T-boned a bridge abuttment. All I got was a broken ankle, a broken collar bone, and a few bruises and scrapes; but the thing that really hurt was looking at my car after climbing out of the wreckage.

7. Ouch. I won't say anything...except...
I'm glad you weren't hurt badly. Except maybe inside.
Still, I feel for you.

I've been poor most of my life, so the most extravagant purchase I've ever made wasn't that great....it was a $250 WCW World Heavyweight Wrestling Championship Title Belt with a Kurt Angle name plate, and the plates were curved like the real belt. I loved that thing until I had to sell it on Ebay for some money. :(

that graces our home. I drove three hours to Lafayette, Louisiana to pick it up (to avoid shipping costs). It was a steal!

It was a retirement gift to myself after 24 years on a job.

6. I'm fairly sensible fiscally,
I think the most extravagant purchase I've made is a really old bottle of cognac I gave my father as a gift.

8. A Natuzzi Black Leather Couch and Reclining Chair
It was over $5,000 retail and I got it half price at a Scan closeout.

12. In retrospect, a $525 video recorder
It was back in the late '70s, I think. It was a Quasar and the cassettes were the size of an American Heritage Dictionary (New College Edition). They could only record 3 hours apiece but I swear the resolution was much better than VHS. A very extravagant purchase for its time.

13. Haven't bought it yet
But come springtime I'll be $2750 (minimum) poorer and about a 100 horsepower richer. This is what will be my most extravagant purchase ever.

I can hear the blow off valve whistling now. Sweet, sweet music. Turbos are almost as good as sex.
