Who is your Favorite Sunday Morning T.V. Preacher and why?
Mine is Peter Popoff, because of his frightening face, his demeanor and his miracle spring water. Oh, and his name!

1. I don't have a favorite; they're all creepy...
...although the Hour of Power guy is slightly less creepy than the others.

2. Not really a sunday morning preacher...
But have you ever watched EWTV's old sister? I can't remember her name, but she's hilarious and I love her.

4. I watch Popoff because of the "miracle" healings...
they are hilarious and boy does he look plastic, I mean does his hair ever move? Also if you watch his show they improperly use "your/you're" in a promo for their miraculous spring water. It bugs me and amuses me all at the same time...like really nobody on the production staff has been able to pick that up?

7. The gold standard Jan and Paul Crouch, off the scale in wild...
the drama, the clothes, the hair, the inplants, the Rococco set, the insane parade of guests. It's just so, so, over the top, you just have to look for a while when passing through. For the gay guys, there was a time he has a set of twins who were duplicates of Roberd Redford on steroids. One of them would play the Mr. Universe Jesus during their staggeringly crass Easter spectacles. Somewho they just dissapeared; seemed to be around that gay thing that Paul was dealing with one of his assistants.

Van Imp is just plain scary, and his wife is off the scale in creepiness.

Shuler the Crystal Cathedral guy and his overly earnest son are good for a couple of laughs and seem harmless. I like the solemness of his peaching, then the long shots of people milling about like it's a summer sale at a mall in the sanctuary.

Coral Ridge's Kennedy has my vote for the most promising fascist. His Lawrence Welk demeanor plays well, and sometimes he just gets into his own gig so much, I am sure he is on some type of medication.

14. Oh, it's real. Be afraid of the hair. His clothes speak for themselves.
That stained glass window in the background is an original Tiffany. The set looks like mixture of Louis XVI, and a crack addict.

   Too many years raised by Sudden Black Baptists & Pentecrosstals;
Too many years living next door to a screamin' prayin' speakin' in tongues West Texas revivalist whose Sunday morning prayer services on the ray-dee-oh STARTED at half-past oh-fuck-me in the morning! (which was about the time I'd FINALLY be getting to sleep after the Saturday night drunk-as-a-skunk-on-bad-beer-and-cheap-whiskey romps in the shitkicker bars... which was all the hell there was to do in the '70s in Albuquerque!)

29. re: pic in amybhole's post
If this guy has a direct link to God, why can't he get his wife's hair fixed? *shudders*

if you feel the need to get in touch with God, find some woods or a mountain trail to walk around for a few hours. See the real deal in person. Not this Vaudeville crap!

21. Not a Sunday morning one, but I used to love watching Jesse Duplantis
He can be hilarious. I don't agree with some of the stuff he rails against, but the dude is entertaining to an extreme (and, occasionally, he'll even come up with something thought-provoking). Then again, I don't really give much credence to anything preachers say, at least when it's rooted in religious dogma or prejudice, and I just watch 'em for the entertainment value, so they'd better darned well be ripping it up, doing the chickenwalk, and saying 'Uh" as an add-on syllable at the end of every phrase. TV preachers and the like are, collectively, scum, but if they put on a good show they're earnign redemption to at least some degree. And Jesse makes fun of religion and preachers a lot...he says a lot of stuff that'd get him drummed out of most mainstream churches, stressing as he does a personal relationship with God/Jesus/Whoever. He says he calls the Messiah 'Jeez' 'cos he's on a first name basis with him by now. That's my kind of minister.

When I lived in the South I used to go to traditionally-black churches (even though I'm neither traditionally-black nor conventionally religious) for the music, the preaching (saw for myself from where the likes of Elvis and Jerry Lee got a lot of their inspiration...both used to sneak in to black churches when they were young), and the great feeling in the room...good stuff. Praise Jesus!...or whoever.

22. Robert Tilton or Ernest Angley
Tilton speaks in tongues and looks like he is pinching the world's biggest loaf. The way he repeats key phrases when he starts squinting... it's easy to see why he inspired the 'farting' video.

Angley is the faith healer with the hokey southern accent (a-YEAH-yuh!) and dead rodent hairpiece. He is the main inspiration for Reverend Lovejoy on The Simpsons. Robin Williams used to incorporate him in his stand-up act back in the day.

26. Once upon a time, I had a certain respect for ...
... one of the Armstrongs (I think it was the younger one, Herbert), as he SEEMED to have SOME understanding of the Book of Revelations -- at least, he appeared to "get" that NO one was yet "saved", contrary to the stated beliefs of MOST of his "eternally saved" fellow travelers on the Sodom-and-Gomorrah Circuit!...
... or should that be the Sackcloth-and-Ashes Circuit?
... of course, I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now!
... Recently, I've had some small grudging respect for Joyce Meyers, who either actually DOES "get" the whole "humility" thing, or is the best Actor ever in the HISTORY of Churchianity!

27. Yes, Joyce Myers isn't all down your throat
She isn't hell and brimstone. She seemed more down to earth, and she talks about problems like she has been there.

I'm not Christian anymore, but I respect her.
