3. Have fun!
The only amusement park with "wood" in it that I've been to is Kennywood. It's by Pittsburgh, PA. I've been to Great Adventure a few times and being from New Jersey, I know a few people who were seriously injured at Action Park before they were shut down. Now that it's called Mountain Creek and made all safe and shit, it's just not the same.

23. Nope. I was a little kid when I went.
I lived in Pittsburgh for a summer when I was 17. I was doing theatre stuff at Carnegie Mellon for the summer. We even built a 34' self-supporting suspension bridge out of Kinex! In one of the technology classes, the instructor brought us to the Kinex room (yup, CMU's theatre dept. has a kinex room) and said, "I want you guys to build a big-ass bridge using a SHIT LOAD of Kinex! You have five days. Go!" It was a fun summer, even though I was in the aptly named Pittsburgh.

28. I was pretty busy, had no money and I was underaged...
so Pittsburgh itself pretty much sucked. However, since I was there doing theatre, I was surrounded by fun gay guys.

Here's a funny story from that experience...
I'm walking across campus to a show I was doing crew on along with two other crew members (two gay guys). Campus Crusade for Christ is having a picnic by the theatre. So here we are pretty much walking straight across in a line and in what seems to them to be a uniform (black jeans, black turtlenecks, black boots, knives on our belts)...and one of them walks up to us and asks, "Are you soldiers for Satan?" and tries to hand us a booklet on Jesus. One of the guys I was with replied, "No, we're stage crew; commonly confused with the 'Soldiers for Satan.'" It just confused the poor Christian. It could have only been better if he put "homosexual" somewhere in his response.

She almost won an Oscar for a song she did for Transamerica.

Dollywood is super fun and don't miss the Dolly Parton museum! It has a bunch of her old cosutmes in it and you can see how her, er, proportions evolved over the years. :D

45. Yes. I think she avoids politics, but from her songs and interviews
she definitely has a liberal soul. Even her Gospel stuff is more about acceptance and equality than about "Burn in Hell" fundamentalism.

Lyrics to "Coat of Many Colors," which isn't liberal or conservative, but see what you think about the soul of the woman who wrote it. And she still claims it's her favorite of any she's written. Yes, she did grow up that poor, too.

Back through the years
I go wonderin once again
Back to the seasons of my youth
I recall a box of rags that someone gave us
And how my momma put the rags to use
There were rags of many colors
Every piece was small
And I didnt have a coat
And it was way down in the fall
Momma sewed the rags together
Sewin every piece with love
She made my coat of many colors
That I was so proud of
As she sewed, she told a story
From the bible, she had read
About a coat of many colors
Joseph wore and then she said
Perhaps this coat will bring you
Good luck and happiness
And I just couldnt wait to wear it
And momma blessed it with a kiss
Chorus:

My coat of many colors
That my momma made for me
Made only from rags
But I wore it so proudly
Although we had no money
I was rich as I could be
In my coat of many colors
My momma made for me

So with patches on my britches
Holes in both my shoes
In my coat of many colors
I hurried off to school
Just to find the others laughing
And making fun of me
In my coat of many colors
My momma made for me

And oh I couldnt understand it
For I felt I was rich
And I told them of the love
My momma sewed in every stitch
And I told em all the story
Momma told me while she sewed
And how my coat of many colors
Was worth more than all their clothes

But they didnt understand it
And I tried to make them see
That one is only poor
Only if they choose to be
Now I know we had no money
But I was rich as I could be
In my coat of many colors
My momma made for me
Made just for me

Now THAT's a park.

We also have a Geauga Lake up here and about 4 hours down South is King's Island.

So, how far away is Pigeon Forge (?) Tennessee from you?

Dolly looks like something out of an Aphex Twin video with all that damned Botox (which, incidentally, is music you should look into for your animations).

36. The drive through the "main drag" in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee,
is one of the longest six-mile trips you will ever take. There are times when, and I am not kidding, it can take HOURS to navigate this stretch of road. It does, however, give you plenty of time to take in the hundreds of log cabin rentals, wedding chapels, and Country Jamborees that line the Road to Dollywood.

41. I haven't been to DollyWood, but while your
there go eat breakfast at the Apple Barn. I didn't even think that you might be a vegan, sorry. But If you aren't do treat yourself to a damn good breakfast. There will be a line, but I would wait two hours to get in. I usually rent a little chateau in late october for a few days in Gatlinburg. One of the most beautiful places in the world IMO. Be sure to check out Cherokee, these are real Indian descendants and live of tourist. They are friendly and have beautiful arts and crafts if your into that sort of thing.:D

I'm sorry, I assumed you were there for more than a day. I really get excited about Gatlinburg, Severville and Pigeon Forge. If you love the environment, you get to see it at its very best.

You are going to have a blast!:D I've still a few months to wait.:-(

42. Cool! I love Dolly Parton! Maybe you'll see her there!
She has an apartment there in the park and several of her relatives are in the musical shows! They are talented musicians and performers. Dolly is just wonderful! I love her music.

Ava, you are too young to remember this: Dollywood used to be called Silver Dollar City. Dolly bought it and then improved it. Her goal is to provide employment to those people from the area of TN where she grew up. Her family was poor. DId you know that Dolly has a foundation that gives books to needy children all through the time that they are growing up? I think it's one book a month. She is a good person and your money spent at Dollywood will go to good causes that she supports!

Have fun! :hi:

Edited on Fri Jul-21-06 09:27 AM by Bridget Burke
The gay Irish talkshow host/comedian visited the Park with Dolly as his hostess. I saw the show on bbcamerica.

I've loved Dolly's music since she partnered with Porter Waggoner. (Now, THAT'S country!) And I've heard that's a beautiful part of the country.

Bumper sticker seen in Houston: "If Dolly Parton was a sheetrocker, she'd be flat busted too."
